Nice glove. Looks to be in very good condition, too. How's the stringing?

There are many regional food items. I have a few that I keep listed in my store and when I sell one I go and buy it and ship it.

Just had a buyer return an item saying it didn't fit without ever contacting me or opening a return case. The item just showed up in a box with a hand written note.

Default Thrift Shop Pickups

Found an Atlas 150 pasta maker, new in box, a couple days ago for $10. Not too bad I don't think. Not sure what it could go for.

Ran to an annual church sale I usually load up at this morning. Not as much stuff as they usually have, but still some awesome finds in the mix. Found a blender I was needing fro some side projects at the house, did not want to use wifes good blender.

Found a Ralph Lauren neoprene laptop or tablet bag for 50 cents they sell for 20 to 30.00. Then picked up 2 vintage (new old stock) Corbin padlocks, that sell for 45.00 each for 1.00 each.

OK, just found this thread last night... I've done some thrift flipping in the past year or so, but nothing to the scale that you've talked about in the thread, and nothing with clothing...in college, I paid for my beer by digging through used CDs to find the oop gems I could flip for 10-20x profit...but I've NEVER messed with clothing...anyway, I hit up a store this AM and spent $30 on 3 shirts & 8 hats...how'd I do?

Looking forward to expanding my knowledge a bit through exploring this thread further!

I think you did well on the hats, but personally I would have probably passed on all the shirts. That's just mostly due to me having so many shirts right now that I am pretty picky about what I pick up. You might be able to sell the Tommy shirt for $15-$20, but the others probably in the $10 range. Still a profit and not that bad.

Personally, I stay away from shirts with cracking like the Jayhawks and Hilfiger. Vintage Hilfiger sells better than newer stuff as well. If I am looking at t-shirts, it has to be either something incredibly unique, vintage wrestling, or vintage shirts (I mainly go for vintage sports shirts or concert shirts, especially of popular players/teams and bands). I tend to stay away from newer items of clothing in the t-shirt department.

Luckily, you hit a few nice caps with the Giants, Chiefs Shockwave, and the Cowboys (always sell well). I would watch some YouTube videos and watch how to properly clean a hat and reshape them as it definitely increases the ability to make the sale. You will get your $30 back just on the Chiefs Shockwave (should be about a $35 sale).

I would have passed on the shirts as well, unless I was paying 1.00 or less. THen again I have gotten extremely picky on clothes. I have found I really don't like messing with it. New love is buying the remains from yard and estate sales and making the money off the leftovers. To me its more profitable and interesting.

How does this go for you? Are the people receptive to an offer on everything they have left over or are most not interested?

It depends, most who employee this try to get it for free, I try to pay something gives a little incentive.. With estate sales many times they are just trying to get the house cleared. Like last weekend I bought what was marked for the sale at nearly 900.00 for 20.00. It was old cell phones, house phones, and other computer related office equipment and some odd and end stuff. Most of the stuff is being parted out or scrapped all together. I have already sold a pair of pilot headphones from the lot for 49,99 so everything left is profit. May take the box of loose random power cords to the scrap yard today there is about 40 pounds of them at 36 cents a pound that's about another 15.00. There is another 150.00 listed on Ebay and another 2 or 300 waiting to be sorted through and broken down. Then another 30 or 40 after that from the scrap yard.

Depending on the model, that could be worth a couple hundred bucks. Nice $5 pickup!

ETA... Maybe several hundred dollars...

I buy the remains from Estate Sales. I have purchased entire contents of houses for as low as $100 because they NEED to move stuff out quickly after the sale ends. I'm talking tons of furniture, pianos, clothing and full basements and garages that are filled. 50% of the time I can get everything for free. Depends on your relationship with the Estate Sale company. I got 100 sport coats a few months ago from one sale. All Burberry, Hickey Freeman and Brioni. Paid $15 for the lot because the house sold and needed to be empty ASAP. Not easy to get into though, it took me some time to develop trust with the company that sells to me. They will actually sell to me even if I am not the highest offer because I clear things out fast and don't leave garbage behind. Probably have about $200K in inventory right now and only spent about $1000 to get it. Actually, it's too much stuff!

Yeah Saladmaster has been one of my little hidden secrets for years. Someone mentioned the brand the other day so I will say something.

Wish my wife would let me sell the set we have she never uses.

Yeah it can overload on you quickly that is why I try to only work with one of the 5 local estate sales companies. This one typically does a sale a week some weeks they do 2. They are not having one this week due to last weekends tornado that had one of the addresses not having power until last night.

There are some shady estate sale companies in NJ that overprice stuff just so that they can buy what is left from the homeowner for dirt cheap.

I just gave my local Goodwill 2 big trash bags full of . . .
packing peanuts.

They don't sell them; they use them when shipping breakable items (usually donations that are getting sent on to a Goodwill boutique).

So if you have more than you know what to do with, it's much better than throwing them in the trash.
