For the price of a Heritage red, you could get something better than a gold I would think. Red wave /5 or orange maybe?

I know I'm in the minority but this still seems so strange to me. Why are people willing to pay so much more money for perceived scarcity just because of a color or a foil stamped number? Give me a base RC with auto any day and I'll use the money I saved for something else.

Heritage Red is the rookie year card to own in my mind. But I hate how the photo they chose for Acuna covers up the auto. Hence, the difficult decision.

But if you look at recent sales I would definitely take the following:

4x Gold Refractor Auto PSA 10/BGS 9.5 ($800-1000)

over

1x Red Ink Auto PSA 10 (last $3919)

Don't know how this will play out long term. With the re-emergence of the relevance of the Base RC card and the fact that 20-30 year old Auto's aren't holding up as well as original buyers might have hoped, I think it's best to diversify cash in a player if you can. Some Key Auto's, some Key Base. Equation above would allow you to sell a few of the Gold's within the next few years to diversify your collection while still giving you stock in Acuna.

If you asked me which I personally prefer (cost/market be damned), I would go with a nice Topps Chrome Gold Auto /50 all the time.

I was thinking the same scenario but didn't have time to look at current sales.

Agree. I was looking at my purchase history and noticed that I bought the gold (raw) for $10 (including shipping) in Nov 2018 and spent $18 for grading. It came back as a gem mint. They still have plenty of room to run in the long term if he continues to perform well.
