Ronald Acuña
I was told to start collecting this guy by a friend, so I did. I just hope he's clean. I know these stats cant keep up, but this is absurd, no?
Since being promoted to AA and as of this post: 34 for 82. .415 average. In the entire month of May, he went 50 for 103...485 average. With men on base, he's and absurd 26 for 45...578 average. In 49 games this season he has 26 stolen bases. I mean, video game stuff. He's 19 |
Developing some power this year. Probably will add some weight and play at 6' 200 lbs. Seems like a great prospect and a prime candidate to jump WAY WAY up in the rankings next year but his base chrome autos are already taking all that into account at $130 so the surprise factor isn't there with him.

Good points. And yes, when you hit .485 for a month, surprises can be difficult. :) |
Honestly, for a player that young, if you bought in when the base autos were around $50...sell now.

When was this? His autos have been consistently in the $100 range, no? |

They were around $50 in early May. There's no value in the current prices and the risk is still really high. There's better, less risky prospects out there commanding less. |
Yea he's killing it, literally. IMO, just depends, I got a bunch of his stuff pretty low and am grading and holding till he hits AAA. Once he gets there, his stuff will boost again and if he does well, then I'm holding more till he hits majors or if he doesn't, then I'll still make out. Depends what you put into him

I don't follow a ton of prospects, but I hit purple and blue autos in a break with Houdini and checked prices and stats. The guy is absolutely tearing it up.
|
I pulled 2 of his autos... just sitting on them... not chasing, but not selling either.
|
Great card to sell now. I wouldn't buy at these prices.
|
Managed to pull 3, Base, Refractor and Gold, and I wouldn't think of selling them now. I think anyone selling now will regret it big time. In 2 years you will see the "What did you sell your Acuna for?" threads.

Mine line of thinking since I pulled my autos... still regretting my Trout and harper flips... |
Too high to buy after just being up at a new level but he does look like a heck of a prospect if you got in bf the bump or can wait til the offseason.
|
Yeah, I said the Braves made a mistake promoting him.
Not the brightest moment for me. I've bought 3 color autos at inflated prices since! |
Looks like a sellers market to me:
.411 BABIP at A+ .525 BABIP at AA Sell while the fire is hot |
Looks like a sellers market to me:

Yup Robles (devers?) seem like wayyyyy better investments. 525 BABIP which lets say settles in at 350 BABIP. That's a 175 point drop. A 175 point drop at a 415 ba is what? 240? |

You can't use Harper and trout, they are the rare exception. Hold players long term (long after their call up) and you will lose Way more than you win |
This is why I'm a bad Prospector, I would sell all day on Acuna. IMO no way his Chromes are $100+ in 2020.

Odds state you in 2 years these threads will look more like "What did you sell your Matt Laporta's for" |
I go to quite a few Mississippi Braves games and he is a special type of player. He may be in Atlanta sooner than people think.
Odds state you in 2 years these threads will look more like "What did you sell your Matt Laporta's for"
Because not everyone starts off like Judge, Seager, Bryant, Bellinger, etc, the odds are always in favor of a LaPorta. I personally think Acuna will pan out but if he doesn't those who sell now will be smart, if he slumps those who sell now will be smart, if young prospects jump him during any struggles those who sell now will be smart, and if he is a good but not awesome MLBers those who sell now would be smart. With that being said, the prices could still rise while he is in the minors and during or after callups if he hits well, but you are always playing with fire if you can make money today and take that and safely put it into other things. |
Acuna matata, y'all.
