Funny story about this father's day blue card that just sold. I actually was one of the first buyers of the card in 2018 and it was also one of my first returns via eBay to the consignor.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/37409280438...mis&media=COPY

The 700 parallels were tough bastards to grade and between edge chipping, corner dings, and surface dimples, a PSA 10 was a small miracle. Just look at the pop report for the gold, as reference with 40something PSA 10s out of over 150 graded.

Edge chipping was a given for the most part, so when I received this card, I noticed that the seller tried to fill in the chipped white area with blue ball point pen ink. I kid you not - look at the top left-mid edge of the card. That is some fine BIC pen ink, gents. Anyway, thought it was funny that the card ended up slabbed as "authentic" to appear somewhat credible and come back on the market. Crazy times. Will also add that it's half sad, half funny that I have laser focused on these cards for so long, that I remember many of them either through buying/selling or bidding. Long live the Sho.

That’s nuts.

I had to cancel an Immaculate patch (not Sho) due to ballpoint pen fill-ins. What the heck people.

Yikes. Clearly, altering a card is wrong and should never be done, but you'd think they'd at least test it on a lesser card and say "this looks like sh**" and think better of it . Greed and stupidity are the ultimate killers.

I can't confirm or say it's wrong, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me. This is a guy who still deposits his entire paycheck to his mom and gets an allowance per month - that he hardly uses. He cares very little about money and if this can return time back to baseball, you bet he will do it.

I hope you are right...as the baseball market in general is pretty cold right now. My two main guys are Ohtani and Tatis and I dabble in Acuna, Franco, Soto, and Vladdy Jr.

Started collecting during Covid and did not know what I was doing and have taken major losses/under water on Lux, Bellinger, Kelenic, Gleyber Torres, Luis Robert, and Eloy Jimenez.

Right now the whole market looks scary, but I keep on buying Ohtani. He is the only guy I feel really good about (not because of his performance which is down this year compared to last year), but because I trust the person he is and greatness is his destiny.

You should definitely sell all your Guerrero's. This season is not looking good for him and his cards could see a bloodbath towards the end of the season. He's only appeared elite when he was hitting in the Minor League parks the Jays were playing in last year that were juicing his numbers. In Major League parks he puts up "just a good hitter" numbers.

Nothing scary about Ohtani. Every baseball fan will know his name 50 years from now. Is there any other player playing right now that you can absolutely guarantee that about besides Trout? Nope. If I hadn't found better places to put money, I'd still be buying Ohtani but I'm done with buying cards

Its a good thing the money I spend on cards is my fun money...not my real investment money. At this point my Ohtani cards are going to have to rocket up one day for me to break even on my collection. Oh well.

BTW...what are these better places you are putting your money stock market, real estate, crypto?

What did you buy that's down? The small sampling of non rare stuff looks about even from late last seasonn?

A specific segment of sports NFTs. One that's actually gone up while all the others have crashed in the past month. DM me and I'll go into detail

Yup, Ohtani high end is pretty flat. Low-end has taken a hit. But we already knew that was going to happen.

I mainly buy low to medium end raw cards. In the past I bought graded cards too. My problem is I bought at the peak on most guys. With Ohtani I have done pretty well. But many of his cards that I bought last year at the peak are down. I am probably under water on at least 20 cards or more. Some by 30 to 50%.

It's a long game...high and lows / peaks and valleys / collect what you like and you will never go wrong.

Baseball is very boring right now - very little real excitement a quarter of the way into the marathon.

The two best players of the current generation are each having the best seasons of their careers and leading the MVP race in both leagues. Ohtani is dominating on both sides of the ball, again. The GOAT pairing of our generation is on pace to make the playoffs for the first time ever too. That's boring?????

I love me some Sho, but to say that he is dominating both sides of the ball is a reach even I cannot make.

Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 and don't look good, at all, and I have been a fan since the 70's.

Thor looks awful in two of his last three.

I grew up in lala land, but easy fella.

Yes, Mookie, Mike and Aaron doing phenomenal.

**my wife just showed me a picture of $8 gas in LA County....these things will significantly impact the hobby along with $50 grading for cards and record inflation.

Lol Ohtani has the #1 strikeout rate in baseball. On the hitting side he's 21st in the AL in wOBA, 8th in SB, on pace for 35 HRs and 20 SBs, and having a significantly better May than April

Dead ball is making this a boring season. Ohtani will be fine once he leaves the Angels, the team is a black hole.

What??? There's about about 0.25 runs less per game than last year in the same time frame through the end of May. That's an extra run every 4 games, you wouldn't even notice. 5-3, 5-3, 5-3, 5-3 vs 5-3, 5-3, 5-3, 5-4 and the first one is dead ball?

Everyone on this board is describing a season completely the opposite of reality apparently because the card market is stone dead. Go figure lol

Strikeouts are worth 2 outs.

Just like last year I couldn't understand the immovability of Vlad fans...I will swing the other way here and will say I don't understand the immovability of Sho fans.

The Angels are not getting it done, and that includes the 3-2 studly man-kid that I adore.

Lol Ohtani is on pace for almost 7 WAR. He had 8.1 last year and blew everyone away for MVP. What season are you watching dude?
