I just don't want to see Vladdy become a Joey Votto. I'm digging the plate discipline this year. He's waiting for the right pitch instead of reaching and driving in to the ground. That's good. But don't be too selective. Get your pitch and mash it.

He needs to talk to his dad who would swing, and more importantly hit, just about anything, but I'm not going to knock the plate discipline and his dad's every pitch is hittable ability is likely a one off.

Votto’s swing in his prime was set to be a line drive approach with exceptional bat control that will produce the occasional home run. Vlad’s swing is strong and committed to make as hard contact as possible. Vlad will have a 10%+ walk rate but he’s not going to get cheated on his swings, sure he’ll sacrifice a few HR’s over a season, but he’s not dropping to 15-20 HR’s like Votto.

Was his Update RC double printed or something? They've been consistently in the $4-6 range. Since release and through his ups and downs.

That’s a strange one. The NNO acts as his true flagship RC and while the Update base isn’t overly desirable, the parallels are (since the NNO has none).

What Triple B said. Also, there’s such a Chrome craze right now, that there just isn’t much attention being paid to the Update base.

But the Acuna and Gleyber ‘18 Updates followed a similar path. It took a while for them to garner much attention in the shadow of their Series 2 SP rookies.

Their SPs are too rare to serve as a base flagship. The NNO is not common, but has a decent enough population to function as a base rookie. I think they will get some more love eventually, but the NNO is going to have to get sucked up into more PCs and pricier for people to seek out alternatives. It'll happen, just not as quick as with Acuna.

We probably don’t have to worry about this too much. Sure, he’s selective. But that’s a sign of a hitter who commands the plate. (Trout, Harper and Soto all walk a lot, too.) Beyond that, while the offense has been lagging as a whole and Vlad has been getting pitched around a little, he’s still mashing and driving in runs.

Vladdy, basically can do the splits now at first base. He’s becoming a complete player.

He can also flick his wrists on an off-balanced, excuse-me swing and one-hop it it to the fence.

All refractors seem to be shooting through the roof right now and it happened quick!

I’m a little worried about the market. I just bought a US1 vintage stock for $221.

Maybe I just got lucky, considering that Alec Bohm and Jo Adell Vintage Stocks have been selling for considerably more. But still, it was an auction for a sub-100 flagship, from a high-volume consignor.

What am I missing? Is it the Chrome effect? Was it just a one-off that just slipped through the cracks?

A black recently sold for $750. Raw golds for around $100-125. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, I bought that black. It seemed low, too, compared to some other recent black sales of other players.

The golds are selling stronger than they had been ever since the ‘20 season started. So that’s a good sign. Maybe I just got lucky.

Those have not picked up steam. A raw sold last week for $45, and a PSA 10 sold for $158 a few days earlier.

Second release, bad photo. People want the first release and SP NNO, and since it has no parallels, rather than going update they go chrome refractor, that’s where the money is.

At least that’s my opinion.

I think I agree. I think the NNO from S2 and Chrome Parallels are the market darlings for Vlad. At least that's where my money is.

I think the condition being listed as "very good" with no specifics given might have scared some bidders off on that one. It's why I didnt bid on it.

Eh i list almost every raw card i have as very good, don’t want any BS returns because i mistakenly left it as brand new and isn’t perfect psa 10 quality.

This. A BGS 9.5 US1 Black sold for $4,499 (according to 130PT) on April 1. I don’t think a lot of people are willing to spend big money on anything listed as “very good”. Not to say it won’t happen, but it’s almost graded or bust.
