I love the Ozzie. I was on the fence with Schmidt. I may jump in with an EfDot subscription from Wheeler...

N of 1 sample, but I asked a Cards fan what she thought about the Efdot Ozzie. Her take:
- Loves it
- Best Efdot card
- She'd like to see the Ozzie haters do an Ozzie backflip

If there isn't room in a 1000+ card set for Ozzie Smith then "the hobby" can go to hell.

There are 1,020 cards in the set.
Let Topps or the artists mix in some of the "not so hobby greats" into list.
It's not as if we are getting Lewis Brinson, Miles Mikolas, or some other hobby scrubs.

I think there is a greater meaning in artists like Efdot creating "good cards" out of "not so hobby great" players like Ozzie Smith (though perception of what is good/bad cards are up to each individual as well).
I don't necessarily collect Ozzie Smith cards, but I'll be buying this because I think it's a great looking card.

Yeah, how did this happen? I thought Panini had an exclusive with the Mantle family.

Does this mean Topps will be able to reprint Mantle SI covers?

Ozzie Smith is know for two things, backflips, and being trapped in an alternate dimension.

Same here. My first Ermsy auto and first Ermsy companion. Felt like a good price for both

This was one of the better moments in baseball history: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4PB0XoLbm8

Plus, the GGs and 3 WS appearances. IMO, there's a clear place for people like him and Aparicio in the Hall of Fame.

1979 Topps Ozzie Smith is an ugly card, but it was pretty big back in the day, so hopefully we can pump it up again. Along with Warren Spahn. That 1954 Topps Spahn <whistles>

Does this list represent the interests of 'the hobby'?

...yet. This is P70 after all.

I do too. Really.

No fandom required. The card is almost objectively fun. Enjoy it for that and that alone.

*Sure, St. Louis is a relatively small market, but they probably have the most rabid fanbase per capita anywhere. A true baseball town if there ever was one.

Signed,
Dodger fan since ‘77.

Not for me. I collect exactly zero of these players. Pulling a trout from a pack for me, is the same as pulling $1-10 or whatever it's worth.

Zero of that fine group?

For me I would add into consideration in no particular order
Yount
Palmer
Raines
Berra
Gibson
Koufax
Killabrew
Morgan
Bench
Vlad
Foxx
Gehrig
Ott
Wagner
Walter Johnson
Randy Johnson
Maddux
Cy Young
Pedro
Miggy

I would take all of the above over Jeter any day.

What's dropping tomorrow?

I'm 4 out of 9 so far this week.

Topps project is the most 'normal' part of my collection. I do chase some Ichiro.

Ozzie Smith belongs in this set way more than Deion Sanders, Justin Turner and Jo Adell. I think it’s one of Efdot’s best, btw.

Alex Pardee's next drop is tomorrow and he said he'll be teasing it on social media sometime today. It seems a lucky few have already seen it.

My recommendation for today: Bobby Brown. The eldustino Collection has room for anyone whose SABR page starts "More than 17,000 players have played Major League baseball, but Dr. Bobby Brown’s life story has no parallel."

Looking at recent 1984 Donruss PSA prices for '75-80 rookies, I'm surprised that Ozzie Smith and Eddie Murray are so close. Both maybe slightly ahead of Yount, and clearly more popular than Trammell and Molitor.

Has Jim Rice even been mentioned in this thread? Pretty sure he has zero hobby interest, but for 3-5 years he may have been the best hitter in the game.
