The American League and the National League were technically separate entities until 2000. Does that also trigger you?

From my understanding, one of the reasons MLB integrated was because they wanted to weaken the Negro Leagues, which had become popular.

If true, the decision to incorporate the Negro League stats into MLB is like MLB pissing on the grave of the league they helped kill off.

Yeah it’s certainly an odd thing to take issue with. But anytime I see someone crying “woke”, it cracks me up.

Gibson is MLB’s new all-time career leader in batting average (.372, moving ahead of Ty Cobb), slugging percentage (.718, moving ahead of Ruth), OPS (1.177, ahead of Ruth), and holds the all-time single season records in each of those categories.
...
Gibson’s .446 batting average for the 1943 Homestead Grays is now the best in MLB history, eclipsing Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy (.440) in 1894, who dropped to third. Fellow Negro Leagues star Charlie “Chino’’ Smith is now second with his .451 batting average in 1929 for the New York Lincoln Giants.

Gibson’s .974 slugging percentage in 1937 shatters Bonds’ .863 mark in 2001. Bonds dropped from first to fifth with Mule Suttles (.877), Gibson (.871, 1943) and Smith (.870, 1929) ahead of him.

Gibson’s OPS of 1.474 in 1937 and 1.435 in 1943 now rank as the top two single season marks ahead of Bonds’ 1.421 in 2004.

Gibson also moves into third place in the all-time single season on-base percentage category with .564 in 1943, behind Bonds’ .609 in 2004.

Side note, I wish that Baseball Reference had a filter on its Career pages that allowed you to hide all the players from before 1903 and also before 1947.

You look at single season WAR and... I get it, Old Hoss Hadburn put up great numbers against people who just arrived at the ballpark after a day in the coal mines. That doesn't really tell me anything about how to measure statistical seasons nowadays.
This should really drive you up the wall then. The highest percentage of black players for any single season in MLB history was 18.7% in 1981. It shows you the talent pool in the Negro Leagues was pretty darn thin and using these stats as “official” is obviously inflating them. For example lmao at Josh Gibson putting up a near 1.500 OPS anywhere but the Negro Leagues.

Interesting. See I like to get both sides of the coin when discussing things like this and not just clinging to one side right away.

These guys had a good discussion on this topic. Both former Boston sports writers and Holley is one that I used to listen to a lot on the radio and respect his opinions.

Total of 11 MLB players are Japanese. Who would have thought a superstar player from Japan could dominate the AL and NL…Stars are Stars

Interesting.

I don't think I need Peter Gammon's opinion. I'm swayed.

Doubted his ceiling as a MLB player but never his competency as a very good player.

Countdown until the OP's posts in the thread silently disappear and then he acts like he doesn't know what everyone is talking about.

I'm guessing around mid-afternoon tomorrow.

Just like the Zay Flowers and CJ Stroud threads.

Like I said there, I feel bad for the OP being in nerve pain. It's awful. Mixing oxy and vodka compounds the problem.

All stats pre-integration that weren’t compiled by negro leaguers should be null and void.

And any statues of these “legends” should be taken down.

Im evolving.

If only we could short baseball cards. I'd leverage a short position on Babe Ruth cards. But I need one of you rich ballers to finance my endeavor.

It still amazes me that racism is a symptom of prescription drug abuse, yet here we are again.
