In this case the output isnt as important as the input. And to say input isnt recorded, then how do the charge for the nutritional feed thats given? We consented to restraints (gloves that dont allow her to grab the tube) to avoid any problems.

You keep stating that you wouldnt give her any food, what if it was your family member thats hungry and thristy and the orders say NPO not fasting? Its alot easier to say these things when you are not faced with them head on with your loved one, someone who you have looked after and saved their life numerous times.
yeah man, i feel for you. i would hate being in your position, seeing somebody in my family starving. I think you'll definitely have to adjust your schedule to catch the doctor while he's on his rounds. They have a ton of stuff going on (not saying all doctors work nonstop and none of them just disappear). Try to see if it's possible that the nurse can have the doctor call you if you cannot wait with her to ask questions. I'm not sure if all hospitals/doctors do this, but some have.

and it does sound like they weren't hte ones starving her intentionally, as she pulled her feeding tube a few times. Keep us posted on the developments.

Preaching to the choir. I've dealt with the NPO thing with my grandpa numerous times. I listen to people bitch about their family member starving to death every day because fatty mcfatass hasn't had a bite to eat in 2 days.

You'll live.

Input is easy to charge, you charge by the bag not the milliliter. You wouldn't believe how often input and output are not recorded though. They don't teach that crap in school most of the time. Pet peeve of mine, shows poor nursing judgement.

I need prayers from the community. Her condition has continued to deteriorate. I requested ahe be discharged on saturday and said to hold off til today. Still hasnt passed swallow test but she is on the verge of dying. I am putting hospice care at home so we can get her home where we can patiently get her to swallow and eat again.

We are home but has remained unresponsive for a few hours, just sleeping. A couple of reactions t9 comments to let us know she isnt in a coma but still weak. I am very upset and completely disheartened by this.

Shes a very resilient woman, we are praying for her to come back to us. The robitussin is wearing off So she is starting to become a little more active. We are hoping for her to be alert by morning for breakfast and doctor visit.

We decided to m9ve her to a different hospital than mt sinai. We are hoping to get an ng tube back in. She woke up a few times but still isnt communicating. Im hoping we can balance her system out and get her back into a responsive state . She is back on iv fluids.

Upon arrival to the new hospital, she was put on iv fluids, the same thing the other doctor opted NOT to do, the ER in Mercy did within the first 10 minutes! 3 IV bags later and she was looking 1000x times better than when she left Mt Sinai! Testing discovered extremely high wbc counts which explain why she is unresponsive! So Mt Sinai actually had her in room without antibiotics for 3 days when she was facing a life threatening UTI!
As the doctor in the new hospital was questioning 'why i dont just let nature run its course and let my grandmother pass', SHE WOKE UP AND GRILLED HIM AND HE HAD TO STFU! IT WAS EPIC! So the doctor quickly changed his strategy for care after seeing that she is only unresponsive due to being sick.

The road to recovery is long and hard but with faith, prayer, support and the will to survive anything is possible. I hope to get her healthy so that I can take her back to Mt Sinai and show the staff there that sometimes family members truely know whats best for their loved ones.

We have hit a plateau, hopefully when the nutritional feed begins we can overcome it and continue the road to recovery.

Micro ng tube finally placed today. She is still fighting. Family has already arrived from out of town which was very helpful because today we moved 85% of our stuff into the new house. Now lets keep praying that grandma gets to recover and enjoy the new setting.

Why's she still saying no to the g tube? It's not adding up...
I wish you the best in your situation, whatever it is.

So feeding commenced yesterday and her wbcs counts are dropping rapidly toward notmal levels, dr says she is still a few days behind on hydration but is looking positively at the progress, she is improving rapidly and with prayers and faith she can do whatever she wants which seems to be recover.

She is still on the slow road to recovery. Today she started groaning and mumbling as if trying to communicate. We are still hopeful that she is still there and just too weak to speak. If pitting a percentage of recovery, she is at like a 40-55%. If we can get her to a 70-80% then hopefully shell be able to talk. If she is at 60-65% by monday, theyll put a peg for feeding. Had this been last week a peg would not even be in the talks, but since her condition had dropped so drastically, we are open to anythibg to get her back.

We are in pre-op for a peg placement. Crazy how a little over a week ago we were confident she would bounce back and not need a peg but now its a last ditch effort for her to come back.

She is going to be sedated for surgery, so she is in Gods hands now.

If surgery is a success, she will be given an antifungal as fungus has infiltrated the blood due to the amount of antibiotics in her system.

Please some extra prayers for her that she find the strength to fight and move forward in her recovery.

Edit***

Surgery was a success. Thank God. She is still fighting.

We have transfered her from the hospital to a hospice center to continue her run of iv medications before taking her back home.

The things that have occured in the past month have been a tough pill to swallow and have put alot in perspective. I've continued this topic as a way to express the frustration I have had inside and tried to use it as a way to find a way to come to terms with the change that is happening around us.
