I want that! I reached out to him at the start of the project and he had his handful with a new baby (or maybe twins?). I will circle back and see if I can get him on!

Very cool! The mid 80s were such a great time for baseball and wrestling. That's the direction that my mind went to with this one, anyway.

Yeah this product is clearly not for him, wish he'd move on to some flagship product where every card closely conforms to a look and feel.

There's 400 cards in this project. Four hundred. By twenty different artists who make money by pushing the line on what's acceptable. You're going to hate at least one card/artist. There's nothing wrong with saying you hate it but to demand some arbitrary conformity across an artist or player just makes no sense to me.

There clearly were no constraints issued by Topps and, frankly, this set would be boring to me if there were. Take a picture of the card, open it on your phone with instagram, apply twenty random filters. There's your Project 2020.

How many MLB products does Topps release a year? Let this one product not have to conform to rules.

Also, nothing is stopping you from saying "there's only 18 cards per player because I don't recognize OMA or Siff as an artist". If the cards don't "match" in your eyes, there should be no love loss in just not buying the card.

I don't mind people expressing a passionate dislike for a card or an artist's approach.

But the faux-profanity insults are unnecessary.

I assume that is directed at me among others. I would have done outright profanity, if I didn't think I would get flagged.

However, you are correct that it is an immature response. Just because oma is disrespecting the project doesn't give me the right to disrespect him. I wil stop with those actions, but if I write my distaste in Shakespearean prose, dose that change anything?

oma is not following the script, and Topps should not have allowed it to continue as far as it has. As you said, I am not disrespecting the art of the card but the "approach" or adherence to the guidelines presented at the beginning of the project. I guess my fault is with Topps more than oma.

Hey could you please provide the script so I can adjust my praise of OMA?

Nothing's wrong with criticizing a particular card as drab or not what you had in mind even or anything subjective. What isn't productive is when you scream "AGAINST THE RULES" when there were no rules and there really aren't any rules in artistic expression.

It's a project ceding control to artists as they see fit. That's the only rule I can find.

There were rules! Reimagine the iconic card. Was it a coincidence the majority of artist played by those rules?

So where does it say "Using 1977 Cloth's imagination, reimagine the iconic card"?

You would be fine if for Frank Thomas an image of Joe Thiesmann breaking his leg to indicate "The Big Hurt" was done? It is reimagining an iconic card not creating a card of an iconic player.

How is that Frank Thomas by oma a reimagination of that card? I, and the majority of others took that as holding some sort of continuity of the original/iconic card.

OMA's card is closer to a re-imagining of 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas, and it doesn't have as tight a connection with the original's design as most of OMA's other cards.

But, I'm not outraged. It's valid to re-imagine 1990 Topps as a 1990 magazine cover. The original 1990 Topps pic wouldn't make sense on a magazine cover. It barely makes sense on a baseball card.

We had this discussion many pages back. "Reimagining" apparently means replicating the actual card to most in this forum. If we wanted to twist this to someone other than OMA though, how many artists kept the "original, iconic" Koufax and Clemente cards horizontal? Not many. So where are the haters on all of the artists for turning them vertical?

Email regarding Sophia's companions:

Quote:
Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for the support and patience.

We understand the delay with the companion cards have been frustrating. We wanted to give you guys an update on where everything is. With the shortage of cases (which has led to a lot of the Topps Project 2020 delays), we had to pivot and source our cases from smaller sellers but we're excited to share we have enough cases for the next few companion cards releases.

In addition, we wanted to surprise you guys and create thicker cards to match the P2020 card stock with these companion cards! We had to test out samples with multiple printers and hit roadblocks with each one whether it was a thickness issue, edges or off center issue as seen below. We've gone through 4 printers and prototypes but think we have it down and should be getting our final delivery early next week! We wanted to qc and make sure it was up to standards before packing and shipping them out.

We apologize for the lack of transparency throughout the process. We kept hoping the latest sample would be perfect and we could surprise you guys with the news but there's been a lot of setbacks and delays on the backend. With this shipment arriving early next week, we'll aim to get Trout and Mets companion cards starting to ship by the end of next week. We appreciate you standing by us during the learning curve and promise there won't be delays like this going forward! We'll also be including random surprises like embellished balls and additional random autographs with random orders as a thank you!

Thank you so much for the support and patience! We really appreciate it and can't wait to get these out!
I'm happy to hear she's using thicker stock. Those should be really awesome.

Also if all 20 artists just did the original card in their style, this set wouldn't be anywhere as interesting.
