Probably depends on if it's worth it for forgers to forge it. I have a few copies of John Cena's elbow grease books ... no need. I also have Joe Biden's signed book and yeah probably will need to.

The deluxe obama? Probably not if the deluxe only comes signed as the deluxe edition will be enough proof. It is a bookplate so you have to be wary of people removing the bookplate and placing a forgery but ... 99% of your forgers are looking for a cheap $10 book to buy and then turn it into a $500 sale. If that's the case, you will probably want to get it authenticated before you move it.

The book will come sealed/shrink wrapped, right? So, it's probably not a good idea to break the seal and have it authenticated...I think most buyers prefer the book in its original shrink wrap?

I apologize man, I saw this posted on a facebook group this AM, got excited, bought one and immediately posted here. I'm in the same boat, gonna have to make a trip to B&N.

I didn't realize it was already out, once I saw just one of the autographs on ebay, it very clearly has the autopen dot at the beginning. Then I looked at others and yeah, all matches.

No need to apologise at all, appreciate the heads up. It'll all work out just fine, no harm no foul.

Sometimes it does, for this book, it's very likely. Um, I'm not going to recommend one way or another if you should open it. I'm going to open mine because if there's no signature, it's going to be sent back to Amazon. (Edit: "If", I don't know for certain) These are bookplates, sometimes they screw up and don't paste on in or forget to remove the backing and it falls out or any number of things. Not a lot of quality control at publishers sometimes (they are hurting units these days).

Also, look to the future, it's going to be hard to sell it without photos of the autograph. I don't plan to sell it so I'm going to open mine. I agree that a sealed deluxe edition would probably be appealing to some collectors but I care about the quality of the autograph.

Tough question.

In some situations, the book stores themselves add the "signed by the author" stickers to the books themselves. Obviously not the case for every instance, but still

I've seen Portman auto books with the "signed by the author" sticker and without. I bought one from a local-ish bookstore and it did not have a "signed" sticker on the front

Good points!

Imagine if I hold it for a few years and open it to see NO autograph plate or a smudged auto! That would be crazy!

Will probably open it and see!

Thanks!

Tough question for sure. But, I'm leaning towards opening to ensure the sig is there and the quality is there as well. Then, will have PSA/DNA do their thing!

How do you know that these are signed on book plates? I didnt see anything in the description stating that.

Buy two get one free works on the target website.

https://www.target.com/p/untitled-90...18#lnk=sametab

This was linked directly from the publishers website.

You're right, thought I read that on the penguin page. I would be shocked if it's actually a signed book. Just the logistics of getting that many books in front of him ... lot of sites still have these in stock at the moment. Either a bookplate or tip-in I would guess. But you're right, that's just my assumption.

When I go to this link, I get "Untitled 9049 - (Hardcover)" Are we sure this is the Obama book?

Yes, the UPC number on their site is the ISBN 9780593239049 and you can find this same number on the publisher's site as well as amazon's site. The metadata just hasn't populated yet.

Now, whether they deliver or not I cannot say ...

Thank you. Will be a great deal if they honor it.

Anyone still looking for a Natalie Portman auto, the Star Wars Auto Authentic group will be doing a Natalie Portman auto pre-order starting BF, she will be signing for any of her work, Star Wars, V for Vendetta, Thor, etc.

Yeah...went ahead and got 3 myself. Not sure if they’ll honor but can’t go wrong at that price if they do.

Worth noting on those Obama books that the Michelle Obama deluxe editions from last year around this time ended up being autopenned (I believe) for $150 a pop.

That's always a risk for sure with very popular autos...fingers crossed!

I haven't participated in one of their signings before - do you think this will be around Harrison Ford's prices ($1000+)?

It’s also worth noting that with targets deals like these typically they discount all items equally so you could return 2 and have paid $234 plus tax per book.

With how many retailers have them and amazon had preorder open for a long window I don’t see resale being too high for people looking down that route.
