This is in a top loader because this card is not real. The real ones are thicker than the standard top loader that this appears to be in. This post appears to be nothing more than attention seeking...

I’m SHOCKED that Occam’s Razor hasn’t been referenced yet in this thread. It’s been a Blowout staple in these scandal by the uninformed masses.

Nowhere on 2024 Topps Chrome Update boxes or packs does it mention the Paul Skenes Debut Patch card. The boxes state: "MAY CONTAIN REDEMPTION CARDS WITH EXPIRATION DATES".

There is an official checklist and odds sheet from Topps, but where does it say you actually have a shot at pulling the Paul Skenes Debut Patch redemption card?

Clearly, the Skenes card was used by Topps in marketing for the product. But does that legally require Topps to make it available to the public in randomly-distributed packs?

If I was the LCS I'd want my name screamed from the mountain top.

You don't have to out the kid/family, but the shop would love the publicity.

Exactly.

They do this for every single retailer that sells a winning lottery ticket.

It should be plastered everywhere, especially if they are a fanatics authorized dealer.

It would have been easy for anyone in the know to ask the parents where they purchased the box.

Proper reporting should include this information.

Hopefully this isn’t like the McDonald’s Monopoly conspiracy where nobody ever really had a shot at getting this card.

The only way it will be put to rest is if the family steps forward, and that ain’t gonna happen.

That was a surprisingly good documentary. The card market is at a point right now where they’re slipping in cards/redemptions that are worth $100k+ right out of the pack into hobby boxes. Only a few, but you would think that’s enough to tempt scammers at some point. No idea if that’s the case here, but it wouldn’t shock me if some kind of scandals similar to the Monopoly one happens in the future.

With McDonald’s it was a rogue employee. What some people are saying here is that it was officers of the company who acted to fabricate this story with the blessing of Papa Fanatic himself. That’s a big difference. I’m not saying it’s impossible, especially not with this company, but we need way more proof than what we currently have.

A case which resulted in 50+ arrests and happened without the knowledge of those in charge of McDonalds. Completely different than what is being suggested/alleged here.

But would also support my theory that anything criminal could put the Topps license in jeopardy. AGAIN, why I'm assuming Topps/Fanatics (the higher ups) did not intentionally defraud anyone in this case.

Probably been answered, but wouldn't Topps benefit more if they had this big event photo op with the kid and/or his parents pulling it where they presumably bought box from?

honest question at 11 yrs old can the kid legally agree to a contract with the auction house to sell the card ? If not you would assume the father would do it for him but to do that wouldn't the kid have to relinquish ownership of the card to his father thus no longer making him legally in control of what happens to the money the card brings ? For me if I'm that kid there surely has to be any number of high profile influencers who would hand deliver a suitcase full of cash to his doorstep. Screw his parents trying to live vicariously through his good fortune.
