I am sure besides fees they may get more singles to them via fanatics. It’s funny cause he mentioned it doesn’t matter what fanatics does since they are about singles and not so much allocation.

This is why they are having Rob bring his entire online inventory over to Fanatics so it does become like ebay and beckett marketplace with a huge fixed price inventory and not just a place for auctions... primarily for graded cards.

Fanatics can also setup a program like ebay standand envelope. Its nothing special. It would require them to have an online postage vendor like pitney bowes for the reduced stamp cost and a company like easyship to convert the intelligent mail barcode on the envelope to tracking.

Inventory isn’t the only problem. It’s the UI. And like I said, Burbank deals in very low end, very overpriced cards. 2.4M items listed and they have 930 sales of $100+ in the last three months. Probstein has 40k+ sales of $100 during that time.

I believe Fanatics tried to buy COMC so it makes sense - but there is no way a hobby shop can compete with a company that has 3 warehouses in multiple countries

I'm not saying that they are hard to get a hold of. I'm saying they are hard to make a fair deal with.... in my experience

Burbank has a lot more inventory other than just what they list on ebay and Beckett Marketplace. They dont just sell cheap cards.

Reason why Fanatics brings over Burbank is to increase their inventory, increase the eyeballs on the website, bring legitimacy to their website as a place for buying fixed priced cards at all price points. Rob is going to promote the hell out of Fanatics and since he is "respected" in "the hobby" there will be plenty of buyers following him on Fanatics.

What will need to be seen is whether Fanatics just wants to deal with high-volume sellers or everyday schlubs who sell on ebay.

I didn’t say they did. But the overwhelming majority of what they sell is cheap junk.

Given your post history, I’m sure you’re connected to Burbank in some fashion. So let us know what’s available in the physical shop that isn’t on eBay or their website since the highest priced listings mirror one another.

I can finally remove the exclusion I had for them from my saved searches.

I "bought" a Big O RC in like 2019 that had been on their ebay for a year, and they cancelled it saying they sold it in their store.

Yes, from my experience, they price cards much higher than other sellers. Apparently, it's the same thing in their store.

Ryan is great.

I used to live in LA. Went to Burbank a few times wayyyyy back in 2005-06. The old store on Magnolia. Did not like the vibe at all. But it was close. Moved to the other side of the city, closer to a different shop and didn't go to Burbank again until 2019. By then, Ryan was part of the business and the vibe had completely changed. Sure, a lot can happen in 13 years, but I think it was pretty much all Ryan. That kid's great.

Ryan is like quiet, smart and all about just doing his job as best he can. Rob is all big personality, big talk, etc.

This whole "Cardfather" persona that Rob has taken on since covid and especially since Fanatics took over has very much turned me off. He's really become a schill for them.

I think it's only a matter of time before Burbank Sportscards is renamed "Fanatics Presents Burbank Sportscards" or "Burbank Sportscards: A Fanatics Experience."

This move has got to be good news for those sellers on eBay that competed with them. Sellers across the board should be seeing huge sale increases by this.

As mention above Ryan seems very good for them but someone that names himself the card father, seems arrogant to me.

Yes, Burbank cards is a great store and does great things for the hobby but there are so many other players in the game now. Lots of other rising stars in the hobby that could dethrone them in the future.

Also by looking at his Instagram posts it seems like Burbank is shifting to graded cards from singles cut this be why they are leaving the singles game on eBay?

eBay has 135 million members.

Burbank has 68k IG followers.

Even if every one of Burbank's followers left eBay (which wouldn't happen anyway), that would be .00005% of eBay's userbase. eBay probably adds more new accounts in one day than Burbank has gained in a lifetime.

It is career suicide absent a lump sum agreement, but I suspect there was a lump sum involved. Rob has to know his revenue is going to plummet if he does this. The question is did Fanatics effectively pre-buy those losses by guaranteeing him X amount of money to make the move? I would guess yes.

Another contributing factor parterning with Fantatics could be that Burbank has their card show and brick & mortar store. Using Cards HQ is an example, they've apparently done $4 million in business that last 4 months. One issue Geoff and his partners eluded to in their YT videos was that they need more inventory. Burbank partnering with Fanatics solidifies their future growth in not only attaining inventory but marketing their brand.

You're not considering the potential for Burbank to become the official warehouse and fulfillment service of Topps. Rob is ditching the wholesome, brick-and-mortar facade and hitching his wagon with Fanatics -- it's full douchery ahead. Think Comc and Upper Deck.

Excellent points! I wonder if, due to hugely profitable (for Rob) , popular and successful Burbank card show, if the decision was made in large part that maybe there’s more money to be made in doing the card show twice a year (I can see it going quarterly in the future) and the brick and mortar (it has to be the greatest card shop in the world, it’s like a collectors Disneyland) both together make more money than selling cheap cards on eBay? If so I think that was a very smart business move by Rob to sell all of his cheap cards to fanatics for a huge lump sum payment allowing him to focus on where the big money is (the Burbank card show and their upcoming HUGE brick and mortar opening up in a couple of months.
