Default Burbank/Veres leaving Ebay for Fanatics Collect

https://www.cllct.com/sports-collect...exclusive-deal

I love ebay for the most part. The fees bother me sometimes. But interesting to see how the reaction goes.

Burbank sports cards is the single hardest outlet to make a deal with in my experience. I've purchased cards everywhere and can never seem to finalize anything with them.

Rob Veres has been bashing breakers for awhile and now he joins them. I am not happy about this. I don't want to use another platform. COMC, eBay, sportlots, and Becket Marketplace is enough for me.

I made an offer on a card on ebay and they didn't even respond. Definitely have en elitist vibe.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I felt like I was crazy for even thinking it. They have a great reputation, just not my experience.

An irrelevant piece of news. Nobody uses fixed price there and Burbank sells mostly dollar bin cards at inflated prices. Hopefully they don’t let Burbank flood the weekly auctions with worthless junk.

I have to think they made him an offer he can't refuse because that is an extremely risky move for Burbank. I don't think there is a ton of overlap between Burbank buyers and people that check PWCC listings regularly.

Seems like Fanatics really wants to ramp up the number of SKUs.

It's still not enough to get me to regularly check Fanatics Collect. Ebay and COMC still the only 2 marketplaces I need.

Sounds like good news for low-end ebay sellers. Rob won't just be losing the traffic from ebay but also their ese shipping. Granted, they have enough selection that buyers can combine shipping, but I still think that's got to take a hit.

This sounds like a terrible business decision. He must either be getting paid directly by Fanatics for the variety of inventory/skus and exclusivity or getting 0% fees or something. Why leave a well-established marketplace (actually two, since they are also leaving Beckett) for something 100% unproven?

Exactly my thoughts. Anyone who sells on eBay will benefit from 2.4 million singles vanishing a week from now.

Well, let that be a lesson -- Rob Veres is about Rob Veres and the success of his business. He may have talked a good game to garner attention and support from traditional hobbyists, but it was all part of a long hustle to build up his business.

Looks like Fanatics is using Burbank to position themselves as a quasi-Comc:

Quote:
But unlike vaulted cards that will be shipped by Fanatics, cards listed by Burbank will be fulfilled by Burbank. Veres says his current staff of retail and e-commerce is around 25 people, but he wouldn’t be shocked if it grew to 50 within the next six months.

In addition to millions of low-end cards being added, Burbank will aim to increase its spend to add a number of high-end cards to the platform as well. Historically, the company was best-known for dealing in lower-end items.

The investment from Burbank will be heavy, and in return Veres wants to see his reach increase in a major way.

They blocked me on ebay.

Why you ask.

I called them out.

I bought a card from them and a week later I get a refund.

I ask what is going on.

They claim they can not find the card.

A few days later the list the same exact card I bought but at twice the price.

I called them out and said it seems you found the card I bought and I would like it shipped to me.

They blocked me after that.

They have millions of listings. Im not sure they have the time respond to offers.

Although Ive dealt with you on COMC before and you seem to expect immediate replies to offers. One time you retracted an offer after like 45 minutes. Sorry.

I called their shop to buy a PSA 10 2018 Topps Foilboard Acuna RC /190 they had listed on eBay and they said they'd get back to me in 10 minutes. Within that time, the auction was ended and the card was pulled. I called them back and they said the card was sold in the shop in the last 5 minutes.

I'm glad they pulled that on me, in hindsight.

If Fanatics Collect can offer a solid alternative to eBay, people will jump.

Agreed. I see Fanatics Collect never becoming bigger/better than COMC. Let alone eBay.
