First stop inside 4 minutes or even 5 minutes you add 24 to the winning teams score and you play to that score. Perfect - honor Kobe - try out the Elam ending in a game with NBA players - and best of all the game ends on a walkoff. Players can actually play hard to win and honor Kobe etc. while also not turning it into a foul shooting contest (which obviously the ASG never would). And as others have said 24 points in an all star game is basically the same as 8 in a regular game. |

You think either All Star team is playing All Star level defense? I would be happy if they played defense as hard as my 5 year old sons rec league team plays defense.

The reason the all-star game sucks is that nobody tries. Maybe the players can be shamed into trying harder if they are playing for charity? Might not be good for the brand to get caught on national tv standing at halfcourt while the opposition dunks away little jimmy's new coat $$

Dumb idea and all for “only” $500,000 total. Sad that the NBA can’t even muster up a million.

So if the team with the lead scored a total of say 80 points in 3 quarter's, either team has to score 104 points in the 4th to win it all? Damn that's gonna be a long quarter.

Dear NBA,
The problem is not the format you silly people. It's the complete disregard for the game of basketball. Which seems a bit counter intuitive considering the event itself is one based around celebrating your product. Instead, the product you showcase is nothing more than an open gym with phenomenal athletes and a timer. Who exactly are you catering to with this event? Fans who enjoy your product enough to spend money to watch the games (throughout the season)? Instagram influencers maybe? Trying to capture an audience beyond your core audience such as housewives/househusbands/non-binary/non-spacial dimension or whatever descriptor I am allowed to use now to indicate "typical non sports watcher"? The game as the potential to be amazing. Offensive skill is best showcased when set against equal defensive skill. You can't cross up a guy who doesn't bother trying to stay with his man. You cannot dunk over a defender who is not present. You cannot pull a stunning step-back 3 with no one to step away from. Get my point? Your All-Star game will continue to suck until the players take pride in showcasing their phenomenal talents in all aspects of the game. Or just play H-O-R-S-E, at least then players could drink some beers while they screw around. P.S. While I am on the subject. Whoever puts together showcase videos for High School athletes needs to get a clue. Wide open breakaway dunks, dunks with no defenders, dunk after dunk after dunk. That's all these videos show. I get it, guy is able to dunk a basketball. Awesome. Is he any good at basketball because it's hard to tell. |

Last year, the final score was 178-164. Average per quarter score from the last five years ranges from 37 as the low to 49 as the high. Winning team after 3 quarters only needs 24. |

Sounds absolutely terrible. And then they attach the Charity thing to it. Why? Couldn't all these million dollar NBA players donate more than what this game is going to give?

Kobe should absolutely be honored at the all star game and donations to charity are great. There are much simpler ways to do this.
I assume they want to move away from an exhibition to more of a regular game feel where players play defense but the bizarre rule changes are overly complex and ridiculous. Makes it seem even more of a carnival act. |

Team LeBron wearing the No. 2 and Team Giannis wearing the No. 24.

I’ll give him one thing; Adam Silver isn’t afraid to continue to show the world what a dunce he is.

That’s where the tribute to Bryant and the No. 24 jersey he wore for the last decade of his NBA career comes into play. The team that wins the All-Star Game will be the first to reach a target score, determined by the total points the team in the lead scored in the first three quarters combined — plus 24, the obvious nod to Bryant.
