All the companies rush through cards, so that wasn't the best word to use. The biggest issue is these companies have just gotten so big that consistency within the company has been in steady decline. Bigger grading teams means higher turnover and also less ability to monitor. My last two SGC orders were pretty varied. One was graded correctly for the most part, but had two cards that they missed a serious issue on. The other order was just overgraded, every card.

My last CGC order was the best graded order I have had this year from PSA/SGC/CGC. I am thinking the reason for it is that CGC sports card grading has plummeted to almost nothing and they have a small team grading all the sports cards. Maybe Andy Broome is personally grading all the sports cards at this point.

Grading has gotten too big and inconsistency is part of the game. It is not the company you use, but the person grading your cards that day. Is it someone that was just hired or the angry veteran grader.

My grades just popped this morning for my latest 29 card order with SGC and it was FAST!

Order Received: 07-09-24
Order Graded: 07-12-24
Order Shipped Back: 07-15-24

Here are some of the standouts, these are mostly for my PC:

Really happy with SGC for grading accuracy, turnaround times, and cost. Especially for vintage.

I get what you mean. Definitely makes sense when you explain it that way.

Have you noticed how little pump there is now for SGC. The influencers lost their sponsorships since PSA acquired them. IG and YT was full of ads and videos pushing their slabs. It is also interesting they only have “take home submissions” at The National and no onsite grading. I guess PSA does not want competition?!?!

I think the last part of your post is especially accurate.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Collector's didn't purchase SGC, that SGC would be doing in-person grading at the National like they did last year. I hear they did quite well at the National last year.

That said, if there are less influencers pumping SGC, I don't see that as a bad thing. I personally won't grade vintage with PSA anymore due to the wildly unpredictable grades, and if SGC "matures" and becomes the go-to grading company for vintage, with fewer "influencers" pumping Wembanyama cards, I'm okay with that.

My pipe dream would be for SGC to partner or have ties with PSA somehow to start accepting "PSA/DNA" style submissions for in-person autos again, verified in SGC slabs. If they did that, as a collector that would be a dream come true, as I still use PSA/DNA for vintage on-card autos, but man, it currently takes 2+ months in "Research & ID" stage, and it comes back in a PSA slab. Argh. If SGC could offer that service, I would be completely done with PSA for all things vintage.

CGC may start to take away some of SGC's vintage market. They now have designed holders for many vintage sets. They also have JSA authentication for a decent price. $9.90 per card for 25-card bulk with their turnaround times is absolutely a steal compared to all the other grading companies right now.

I had my order delivered on Friday 7/26 and it still has not been marked as received. I figured they would be a little backed up from the National, but this is more than usual. Hopefully it gets logged in soon.

Got another (mostly) vintage PC order back from SGC yesterday.
Door-to-door in 14 days from California. Nice!

Here are some stand outs:

How long does SGC usually take from when they receive the package until they scan it in?

Usually in my experience a few days. My current one took about a week I'm guessing because everything got slowed down mail wise due to the Tropical Storm. I am currently on Day 7 and it's in post grading.

My order was received on July 16 and it's still on received today August 15. I just hope that the cards they're still researching end up getting graded.

Something doesn't seem right with this order. You do know this is the SGC thread and not the PSA one, right? I don't know anybody whose cards have been sitting at SGC for a month. If you haven't been on the phone with them, then you need to be.

For what it’s worth, my cards were received on July 17, moved to post grading on August 8, and have been there ever since. And I only submitted a 5 card order, all of which SGC has graded in the past, so no research was necessary on any of them. So I’m at business day 23 now. This has been the longest I’ve ever had to wait on an SGC order, including when they were backlogged in ‘20/‘21.

No it's licensed Argentine national team soccer cards from a Chinese company that went out of business (Fansmall). They never put out a checklist for most of their releases before declaring bankruptcy so that's why it's taken so long. I emailed SGC two weeks ago and they said they're still researching.

If it takes another 2 weeks but they get graded I'd actually be happy despite the long turnaround time but if I have to wait this long to get my cards back just for them to come back ungraded...

That's crazy, but I'm thrilled that SGC is putting in the work to do the research. I have tried to get an extended wood mini that comes out of the Allen & Ginter Rip cards graded and neither PSA nor SGC will grade them because they are not hand numbered 1/1.

I've had it happen. If there are obscure cards in your order, they will actually do the research to enter it into their system rather than automatically no specific info it. I've only had 2 cards not accepted for grading by SGC so far for being too obscure, one was a Czech issue and the other was an unknown trade card.

Just sent out a vintage order to SGC yesterday. Guarantee that I receive it back before my PSA order I sent 3 weeks ago even gets out of the prep stage.
