You could quantitate how frequently a fielder's arm is tested relative to his peers, based on where the ball is caught, how many outs, runners on base, etc. .

It can be quantified, they just don't like to believe it can be. It's a part of Baseball Prospectus' DRP

Ah yes, the defensive statistic that has Travis d'Arnaud top 20 in all of baseball and top 4 among all catchers... Let's just say I'm skeptical lol

I would love to know how that stat determined that Ronald's arm was negative in 2022. Would also love to know how it determined that Max Stassi prevented 13 runs in 86 games and Adolis Garcia prevented 11 in 51 games

BRR_Arm measures runs saved from throwing. That means there needs to be an advance attempt to be measured. I don't see anything that measures how many times a runner doesn't even try to advance because of the threat of his arm. A fake tag up, taking two steps off the base and stopping is not an attempt.

So, what stat quantifies how many times the threat of his arm prevented an attempt vs if they would have run had someone else been out there?

Default Ronald Acuña

Run a poll with active hitters. Ask: what percentage of times would you attempt run on Ronald? Hint: the number is going to be ridiculously low. My eyes & baseball knowledge tells me that.

He hasn’t attempted a SB in a while. Wonder why.

His last stolen base was May 4th. Four games have passed since then. One of those games he never got on base. He also fouled a ball off his knee in the game on the 4th.

Is it safe to say if there is a Bat Down 698 that isn't graded there is a good reason it's not ?

The insane price difference in a PSA 9 and a PSA 10 is ridiculously stupid. Tempted to buy a couple of 9's for 75% of a 10 crack them out and resubmit hoping for at least one 10. Worse case they both come back 9's and I'm out $28 in grading fees.

Generally accepted print run estimate is ~20k - plus there were a ton of them pulled before people automatically graded a card like that. I wouldn't be afraid of a raw one, provided there were adequate pictures available.

He doesn’t want to embarrass the other players. He leads the league in humbleness.

Yes. I think that's safe to assume.

There are a number of areas that could have caused the '9' on that card, so I think your odds are pretty low. Some had a white dot in the background somewhere around the middle of the card. Corners with dark background....so multiple corners could be slightly not-gem-mint.

You could probably still try crossing to min-gem with BGS and maybe come out ahead on the 9s that you don't think have a good chance at a crack'n'sub PSA-10. I haven't checked prices on any of these in a while.

Fangraphs is really not a fan of Acuna's defense. Down to fourth in their fWAR rankings, mostly due to his Def rating being -0.5.

Fangraphs must not actually watch Braves games then.

Why run when the guys behind you are hitting bombs and you're walking in? Spend the energy when the team needs it. They don't need him stealing bags right now.

It's unfortunate because with even average defense he's running away with the MVP. I still think he wins it and is a clear favorite though

I know this is an Acuna site but in regard to the post above i am deeply afraid to breakout a card from PSA for fear of scratching the card is there a site or place to find a safe method for this -I try to screen my cards before sending to PSA and occasionaly i might want to re-submit again but never have for fear of scratching the card thank you

Yah, I get the fear. But if it's a PSA slab, just clip the top corner farthest from the card. One there's an opening, use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the slab. Make sure to go across the flip area and not down towards the card. It should pop open with a little bit of work just fine.
