The issue I have is how many overdoses is the dealer actually charged in connection with the death? It happened because Skaggs was a pro baseball player and his family wanted blood while absolving themselves and their son of any actual responsibility for his actions.

This guy was a communications director -- he's acutely aware of how messages are sent and received. How words can matter to how you're perceived. He already knew he was in for a mandatory 20-year sentence when he made his recorded phone conversations.
I don't understand the argument. The judge, by making him stay in prison longer, will not change a dangerous criminal's behavior, and thus he should be let out earlier?

Seems like if he was such an expert at communications, he wouldn't have risked his communications coming back to bite him in the ass.

I have no idea how this absolved them or their son of anything.

And I don't know which where you're arguing. That dealers shouldn't be charged?

Because if dealers should be charged, then don't have an issue with this case - have an issue with cases where it didn't happen.

And for the record I was the foreperson on a fentanyl death where the victim ODd. The victim couldn't have been poorer, and the dealers were on trial.

No -- because he was already serving a life sentence. An extra 2 years is not going to have an added effect.

The prison system will force immediate change. The length of stay doesn't matter. He'll have plenty of time to reflect on his crimes, regardless of the added 2 years.

He knew what he was doing by making the comments -- he was no-doubt advised by his lawyer that any calls would be recorded. He knew his comments could be submitted in court and influence the judge's sentencing decision.
