White Sox classically fly under the radar.

White Sox fans, who I assume hold a lot of his cards, just aren’t prevalent on these boards. This place isn’t the be all end all for card collectors.

It IS weird. It’s kinda the new Mookie Betts treatment.

This thread was red hot his first season. There are loads of people on this board who bought this guy. I just assume most got rid of their Robert bag on the way down.

I can come back and talk more if it helps. I'm just a long time White Sox fan that collects. Okay, hoards! Sure it's frustrating when values go down. I bought plenty pre crazy covid but also some at stupid prices too. In the end I am glad he is doing great but not happy with the White Sox being trash. Market is just what it is and don't think prices will ever be where my collection is worth what I paid...on anything but my collecting habits are more for the cards and not about if I can make money.

I know Luis Robert is very popular on social media and that’s probably more valuable than the love or the lack there of on blowout .

Totally agree, but dang. You would think there would be more than 2 guys talking about a young All-Star that was hyped to the moon just a couple of years ago.

Agreed but I think there are too many new and shiny things now. People only want to talk about the rookies, which is fine. It doesn’t really bother me that the thread isn’t inundated with chatter.

Maybe confidence or persuasion. Hopefully it's good for him

When the White Sox went into rebuild mode six years ago or so (trading away Sale for Moncada, trading for Eloy, etc...), I started accumulating cards of their young up-and-coming prospects - mostly Yoan, Eloy, and Luis Robert. Added Andrew Vaughn into the mix a couple years later. The cards haven't held up in value but I've really enjoyed the chase and it's brought me back into the hobby full force. It's more about collecting than looking at it as an investment at this point (though, admittedly I'd like the cards to increase in value).

Really happy for Luis. All the talent we knew he had is blossoming. Still think Eloy has star potential. Yoan plays well, then gets banged up, and then can't find his groove back. I think Vaughn is good but feel like he chases too many pitches and strikes out more than expected.

Anyway, I appreciate you guys continuing to give you thoughts and updates. It pisses me off that I still care about how the Sox do everyday considering what a miserable season it's been this year. The LaRussa hiring seem to just kill their momentum and the injuries have sidetracked everything the past few years. Feel like a sell-off of some of their pitchers (and maybe Tim Anderson) may be the best approach at this point. They've some progression with their prospects this year but need an influx of talent still.

I still have my LouBob stash. I just don’t post on here too much anymore because part of me feels like as soon as I let myself believe again… he’ll get injured again.

Thank you for your thoughts, also this season has been full of injuries and players not performing as they should, nobody probably expected Luis Robert to be the only real constant factor on the team

I agree that LaRussa set the team back a ton and stunted the energy and charisma and joy of the young guys. I think this team could bring the energy of the WBC if they were clicking and firing on all cylinders. Alas.

I did. If you saw what he was doing in the off season you would agree. Yea, the injury history was a concern but with his constant off season training, I was confident it would help. Now him being on pace for 50 homers, that is different

I actually did too. I’m a die-hard fan. They ran the same group out that finished .500 last year—minus Abreu. They plugged holes in the lineup with guys at or below replacement level. They also rolled the dice on a team of historically often-injured players to be healthy the whole season and did not make ANY quality depth signings as backup. This team has an ego maniac 3B who plays 20% of the team’s games, a SS who has regressed to be one of the worst in the league, they have NO 2nd baseman, a first year 1B with back issues who hasn’t exactly put all the pieces together, a broken Catcher, a very fragile Eloy at DH, a powerless LF, an outstanding Robert in center and a rookie RF that got sent down early and really no good backup. Their idea of an OF backup plan was Jake Marisnick.

The rotation has black holes. They started the year with only 4 guys and counted on “someone stepping up” to take the 5th spot. Not exactly a “win now” mindset. Lynn has been awful—they counted on an injury-prone Clevenger coming off major personal issues. Counting on a bullpen to be great is never smart. Counting on your closer coming off cancer treatment is even less smart.

This is what they ran out there with this year under a first year manager with zero experience as the head guy—and a front office who is totally incompetent.

Yes…I expected this team to be awful and continue to be awful for the foreseeable future. : (

And I feel like a week ago they were only 4.5 games back, and still in 4th place. What a joke of a division.

I would kinda love if North American sports teams had relegation and the structure to make it happen.
