Default Is Jayson Tatum the best player on the Celtics?

I'm starting to wonder about this. 16 points and 6 turnovers last night. Jaylen Brown wins the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award. You've got guys like Josh Hart and others saying Derek White is the most impactful player on the team. I have thought Tatum is overrated for some time now, but now I'm not even sure he's the best player on the team.

I thnk Tatum and Brown are pretty close right now. I think Tatum brings more with his rebounding and playmaking so he has the slight edge. But they are the best 1-2 combo in the NBA with maybe the exception of Lebron/AD. And White, Zingis and Jrue could be the best player on a lot of lesser teams in the NBA. It's the depth of the roster that makes the C's so good and probably about to sweep the finals

I mean Tatum is a future hall of famer and one of the top 10 current players in the NBA. The reason the Celtics are in the finals and the best team is because they have multiple all star caliber players including Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown is playing his way on to the top 10 current NBA players list. He is a superstar like Tatum. On any gven night either one of them canbe the best player on the team

Another reason Tatum is so great is because he can let everyone else get theirs while he settles for 16 points and he has no complaints about not getting enough shots. He is a true a team first superstar. And he can still get 50 in a playoff game when he has to. He's 5th all time in 30-10-5 play off games behind LeBron, Jokic, Bird and Giannis so he's pretty good. But Brown is definitely earning the biggest contract in the NBA

Over the past few years my eyes tell me it’s brown, the numbers say Tatum. I know when things get tight I would rather have brown controlling the ball.

He is the most talented. But far too inconsistent to be considered the best. And it’s why he’ll remain a third tier hobby superstar.

Last 4 seasons:

26.4 - 7.4 - 4.3
26.9 - 8 - 4.4
30.1- 8.8 - 4.6
26.9 - 8.1 - 4.9

24 - 8 - 4.8 career in the play offs

He's pretty consistant.

Jaylen Brown: 30 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, +13 +/-
Jayson Tatum 31 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, -4 +/-

Pretty close stats until you get to +/-

That's with Tatum taking more shots.

Also Brown has the defensive assigment also.

Tatum can be a bit one dimensional and did almost shoot Boston out of the game late. Brown saved the day.

Tatum is not one dimensional. He's the best rebounder and playmaker on the team. He had the defensive assignment on the two centers tonight and he did a good job keeping them in check. His only real flaw is that he's a streaky/bad three point shooter who can't help himself from shooting whenever he gets a halfway decent look at a three. It's very frustrating. He needs to play more like LeBron and less like Curry.

He's not a one-dimensional player, he's just the 3rd most important player on the team.

Nothing wrong with that, the Celtics are loaded with talent.

the other guys flourish because Tatum initiates most of the offense and garners all of the defensive attention. It's not that complicated.

Celtics 107-Mavs 89.

It's amazing how people are still grasping at straws about why Tatum and the C's are overrated when this is litterally a historcially great team.

Porzingis saved them from embarrassment. Tatum was trash. Brown is better.

Jaylen Brown is the bigger wing version of Klay Thompson.

Perfect system/situation for him, put him as the cornerstone of a team and you are stuck in the lottery for a long time.

I thnk Jaylen's comp is more Jimmy Butler. And I think he could be the #1 on the right playoff team like Butler has been in Miami.

You are obviously not an addict of the NBA.

Most Impactful does not equal best player.

Jaylon Brown deserved the ECF MVP. He was better in the series. And I actually picked Brown for Finals MVP.

Tatum is the best player on the team.
Brown is 1A.
