Is Jayson Tatum the best player on the Celtics?
I'm starting to wonder about this. 16 points and 6 turnovers last night. Jaylen Brown wins the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award. You've got guys like Josh Hart and others saying Derek White is the most impactful player on the team. I have thought Tatum is overrated for some time now, but now I'm not even sure he's the best player on the team.

Yes he is the best player on the Celtics
|
I thnk Tatum and Brown are pretty close right now. I think Tatum brings more with his rebounding and playmaking so he has the slight edge. But they are the best 1-2 combo in the NBA with maybe the exception of Lebron/AD. And White, Zingis and Jrue could be the best player on a lot of lesser teams in the NBA. It's the depth of the roster that makes the C's so good and probably about to sweep the finals

I mean Tatum is a future hall of famer and one of the top 10 current players in the NBA. The reason the Celtics are in the finals and the best team is because they have multiple all star caliber players including Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown is playing his way on to the top 10 current NBA players list. He is a superstar like Tatum. On any gven night either one of them canbe the best player on the team |
Another reason Tatum is so great is because he can let everyone else get theirs while he settles for 16 points and he has no complaints about not getting enough shots. He is a true a team first superstar. And he can still get 50 in a playoff game when he has to. He's 5th all time in 30-10-5 play off games behind LeBron, Jokic, Bird and Giannis so he's pretty good. But Brown is definitely earning the biggest contract in the NBA

Over the past few years my eyes tell me it’s brown, the numbers say Tatum. I know when things get tight I would rather have brown controlling the ball.
|
He is the most talented. But far too inconsistent to be considered the best. And it’s why he’ll remain a third tier hobby superstar.
|
the other guys flourish because Tatum initiates most of the offense and garners all of the defensive attention. It's not that complicated.

6 made baskets
6 turnovers |
6 made baskets
6 turnovers
Celtics 107-Mavs 89. It's amazing how people are still grasping at straws about why Tatum and the C's are overrated when this is litterally a historcially great team. |

Last 4 seasons: 26.4 - 7.4 - 4.3 26.9 - 8 - 4.4 30.1- 8.8 - 4.6 26.9 - 8.1 - 4.9 24 - 8 - 4.8 career in the play offs He's pretty consistant. |

this x1000. i always see Brown make the big plays. |
Porzingis saved them from embarrassment. Tatum was trash. Brown is better.
Whatever makes you feel better |
Jaylen Brown is the bigger wing version of Klay Thompson.
Perfect system/situation for him, put him as the cornerstone of a team and you are stuck in the lottery for a long time. |
Tatum is the hobby best player on the Celtics.

Trash? Dude logged a double-double in the Finals. |
He only took 16 shots and 2 FTs.

You are obviously not an addict of the NBA. Most Impactful does not equal best player. Jaylon Brown deserved the ECF MVP. He was better in the series. And I actually picked Brown for Finals MVP. Tatum is the best player on the team. Brown is 1A. |
guys: keep saying he's the second best on the team, inconsistent, etc.. I'm trying to pick up a few more of his cards for cheap.
|
The point was made by JJ Reddick (in ref to Nesmith) that the best defensive player on the team is always guarding Tatum.
|
so are we talking which Celtics player will get one of those bogus Finals MVP awards if they win, since no Celtics player is the best player on the floor in the Finals
|
Brown has moved closer but Tatum is still the best player on the team. He has averaged 25/10/6 this postseason and teams continue to scheme against him which opens up everything else for the C's. That and he is solid on the defensive end. You cannot pick on him like you can Luka for example. He expends a lot of energy on defense.
With that said I like Brown a bit more because of his athletic ability and aggressiveness which Tatum often lacks. JT relies more on refined skill. Either way Ainge knocked it out of the park with both those picks. |

Embiid, Brown, and Tatum is a pretty lethal trio. |
