I think it also shows how much he loves the game and fans. He truly wants to connect to all things baseball. The other day he was rooting on a guy who was beating The Freeze guy during the race in the outfield. He isn't going through the motions, he actually loves being out there, which is why I enjoy watching him so much.

Agree completely. And with the sponsorships will be more facetime with the public as one of the faces of baseball. Something MLB sucks at. But it's hard to promote players and get them out there if they don't even speak the common language.

MLB just can't promote you to the fullest if you don't. I never realized until very recently that Jose Ramirez does not speak english. It's no wonder that most casual fans have no idea who he is despite being one of the best players in baseball for the last 5 years. Good step forward for Acuna, a long way to go

I'm sure he loves the game and the fans, but he's learning English for 1 reason only: Sponsorships! Sponsorships = money. Sponsorships = face of the game. Sponsorships help turn you into a house hold name. It's really hard to be the face of "America's Pastime" (assuming he turns out GREAT), when you can't speak the language. He's seeing what Tatis is doing off the field...and that's probably fueling the fire to move along his English vocab a little quicker. Its more than just being a great player/all-time player (ie Trout). You need sponsors, major media, etc.

Should be common sense to learn the language of a country you're living in for years. Especially since Spanish and English are so closely related there's really no excuse. Acuna's been in the league for 4 years, Devers for 5, Jose Ramirez for 8! It's nuts

They can all almost certainly understand some level of conversational English. There can be a difference between that and being comfortable speaking English to a national audience.

This is the key factor. Much easier to understand a new language than it is to speak it. The stakes are even higher when you're talking to a national audience.

I guess it depends on the person and the extent that they have to use the language but for me personally, it's easier to speak than listen. When talking you control the flow and complexity of the words being used. When listening you're at the mercy of the person speaking's vocabulary. I find myself getting hung up on a word I'm not familiar with pretty often and losing my train of thought.
