Disappointed to see that the recent 'hand-signed' Elton John Glastonbury prints that came with the Diamonds album promotion are all autopen. This seems to be becoming more and more commonplace.

You can get this book with BAS or JSA authentication for around $100-150.

These Premier Collectibles signed books where they only have 1 copy are always about 300% above market price. These are also sourced from third parties and are not from Premier signings.

Anyone collect Easton Press signed editions? I'm wondering when they started including the COAs with their books, as older ones I see don't have the certs. The certs themselves are signed by the author, so I could see some people selling them separate from the book. I found a signed edition from the 90s at my local book store for $15 this weekend and it has the cert, so they've obviously been including them for at least a few decades.

I saw a few of the Easton Press signed Larry King books on Ebay in the $30 range and ended up grabbing one with the signed cert for $30, so 2 Larry King autos for $30, not bad. I saw some copies of the book were missing the cert. I'm guessing some people just lose them on the cheap books, but it would stuck to lose a cert signed by a former president, for example. And I would expect the book to be cheaper without the cert if it originally included one.

I've purchased books from them for over a decade. They've always had the COA included.

So I reached out to Premiere Collectibles Customer Service for clarification on the authenticity of these signatures. Here was their response:

Thank you for reaching out with your concern! We’re collectors ourselves, so we definitely understand why you want to double-check the signatures' authenticity.

As America’s largest autographed bookstore, we are privileged to work directly with authors and publishers on authentic signed editions. We do not sell books with autopens, secretarial signatures, etc., and we guarantee that each signature is personally hand-written by the author.

If you’re interested, we also Livestream a lot of our signings so that our customers can watch their favorite authors in action! You can see full signings and clips from some of these here: https://goo.gl/F3Bf28.

Thanks again for reaching out, and please feel free to contact me with any further questions!

Okay, let's call a spade a spade here.

When it comes to bookplates, what's the procedure? If a celeb sends them 200 bookplates does someone at PC check for autopen and accept/reject?

The majority of their videos are remote sessions so let's not get into the whole "a PC representative witnessed every signing" argument since if it isn't a live in-store session, then their guess is as good as ours.

I mean we all know that getting autos this way subjects us to potential autopen and fake sigs. That's part of what this thread is about, not just the "yeah this book is available here" portion but the "here's what my sig looks like" authentication/validation (aka yay, not an autopen).

I've been leaning toward signings that are in-store signings non-boookplate. The rest imho are fingers crossed hope for the best. I still do them, but am always aware of the potential of a not great result. Hell even with BN Black friday sales I am always comparing the sigs on site to see which fall into auto pen territory.

For all the deals listed on here (I mean for every single one) you're basically rolling the dice.

Instead I would encourage you to judge on how you're treated when you reach out to the company with proof that your order was fake.

And PC treated me well when I showed them that my Alicia Keys books were totally autopens. As mentioned in this thread they paid for return shipping and refunded me. This is both proof they don't actually watch the talent sign every piece of paper but also that they will totally refund you unlike some sites that just keep telling you they are totally legitimate and you're not a real autograph doctor so how would you know.

While their combined shipping is hilariously broken, PC is one of the better sellers for a mea culpa moment.

also at walmart directly with free shipping. the talkshop one is through walmart anyway but you have to pay shipping on talkshop for it I believe (I didn't go through the checkout process to confirm, but most items on TSL have shipping and sometimes a small processing fee).

they treated me like crap on PC with that Alicia Keys book. I haven't purchased from them since. I fought for weeks on a refund. They never admitted it was bad. I tried to cancel 4 days before they shipped and they still shipped. I miss the guy who used to be running things there, they changed a ton once he left and not for the better.

Weird, here is my exact correspondence for two books:

Quote:
Customer Details: (me)
Return reason:: Not Satisfied With The Product
Return action:: Store Credit
Your comments:: These autographs are clearly autopen. I received two books and they are the exact same autograph on the bookplate. This is the first time I've received an autopen from you.
Their immediate response:

Quote:
Hi,

Thank you for your message.

I have attached a USPS return label to this email for you. You can just leave the return out with your mail or drop it in an outgoing mailbox. Your refund will be processed immediately.

If you have any further questions or concerns in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me!

Customer Service
PremiereCollectibles.com
I received a refund, didn't even have to deal with store credit.
