I'm wary of cracking anything out for crossover to PSA these days, with the way their grading standards are right now you run the risk of them absolutely crushing you and giving you a PSA 7 or something

Rather run the risk of somebody valuing the BGS 9.5 (which many people still do by the way)

To try and crossover say a BGS quad 9.5 CRASO, it'd cost a minimum of $1,299 just to attempt it (probably more like $1.4k after shipping/insurance fees). Assuming you could get a PSA 10, that would likely bump the value from say $30-35k to more like $45-50k as a 10. So risk $1.3-1.4k for a potential 10-$15k boost. No downsides other than being out the crossover attempt fee.

Cracking it out, grading fee bumps up to at least $2k. Getting a PSA 9 likely means breakeven at best, a 10 affords the same $10-15k boost. But if disaster strikes and you get an 8 or worse, you'd just lost at least $10k, or $12k after factoring in grading fee.

Frankly, I'd rather take the safer route and attempt a crossover vs crack and resub. Just too risky to get screwed for the latter option.

This exact thing happened to me with a 2017 Mega Box green awhile back, and why I now say no to crack.

It's a risky game for the submitter with potential rewards...the only sure fire profiteer is PSA.

Why in God's green earth would you decide to cut a card like this? I hope it doesn't sell for anywhere close to $4,000. One of the dumber things I've seen.
TBH I kinda hate that card in general, looks nothing like him IMO.

Crack game isn't what it used to be with the upcharges and new "standards."

It feels like there used to be a consistent allowance for one minor flaw (small dimple, printing blip, slight OC) but now it's a roulette spin of whether you get a old or new grader. I've recently had submissions come back 20/20 PSA 9 when all were 10 candidates - never happened to me before in 10+ years

Take the PSA offer and watch those 9's mysteriously turn into 10's.

Starting to think we may need to slip a $20 "opinion incentive" in between the card and the semi-rigid. If the top brass are compromised the graders probably are too.

For grading, obviously. None of them frames gonna get surface gem mint 10s y'all! Might as well just rip the MF'er out of the frame Jimmy Joe! (or whatever that rube's name is)

(facepalm)

Quick question guys: How would you rank these gold parallels? Like this? Are 2 3 and 4 all about the same?

1. Bowman Gold #49

2. Topps Pitching Gold

3. Topps Update US285

4. Topps Update US1

5. Topps Update US189

2, 4, 3, 5, 1.

I'm very partial to the first flagship gold cards of all the big names. The US1 card makes zero sense to me. It's literally another card of him pitching. For reasons.

Not really comparing apples to oranges with the Bowman Gold /50.

Outside of that I agree with your list. #700 will always be the top dog for me. Between US285 and US1, I like 285 better because he's hitting.

I dont even think about US189 since it's lacking his name and RC symbol.

Insane...card doesn't even have a numerical grade.

Yeah, I was like "How the hell is this card that's graded AUTH going for this much???". Then I noticed it was #50/50.

Absolutely dumbfounding.

Shohei tried this style a couple of times, and said, "Naaaaahh".

Not a gold Dodgers logoman, but still nice...

2023 Topps Definitive Transcendent Seasons
MLB Logoman + Asics batting glove dual patch auto 5/5,
from his unbelievable 34HR/15W 2022 season.

Awesome card! Really great looking card, and will be iconic.

What I still cannot wrap my head around is this gold logoman auto of Shohei from an MVP season sells for $3MM. Just the gold logo patch and an auto, with no proof of which jersey it came from.

The Babe Ruth “called shot” full jersey, probably the most iconic moment in all of sports, sold for $24MM.

For those who can spend 7 figures on a card, why is that Ohtani $3MM, when the jersey of the most iconic sports moment of all time, from one of the top 3 most iconic sports figures of all time is only 8x more. What is the upside to this?

I can see spending that money on the full jersey Ohtani was wearing when breaking 50/50 (even though we know it does not exist anymore), but for just the logo from a random jersey? Help me understand.

The same reason why the Mona Lisa wasn't the most valuable painting until it was stolen. Everything is based on perception and headlines that are read by people who have too much money.

What is unique about the card is the back has a see-through hole showing the back of the patch with an MLB hologram, showing the exact game it was used in.

The Ruth Jersey just sold a year ago, wouldn’t that count as headlines?

I understand what you are saying, so using that logic, would that Ohtani always be a 7 figure card?

The Mona Lisa will always be one of the most expensive pieces of artwork no matter what. So does this maintain the fame to be that valuable?

That does change it a little. Which game is it from?

Are AI companies valued appropriately?

Time will tell you what is correct. That said, people are willing to pay a lot of money on guessing.
