Sorry for my ignorance, but which complete sets were you opening? Were they retail or hobby (if there is a difference)?

I have a factory set of them... so I am right there with you

I’ve been trying to sell off some of the base cards from my Acuna collection to buy more rare copies. I’ve been looking for a Topps Chrome #193 color refractor and found this beauty on Facebook the other day for a good price. Pretty cool when you can sell a base TC in a PSA 10 and more or less fund a raw purple refractor!

hah no kidding, first box...that is amazingly lucky! i don’t have access to the bgs population reports, but looking at the psa one, i would bet there are maybe (probably?) only 25-30 of these out there...at most. i would think most of these come out of the packages reasonably gradable and that a majority of people with an acuña would send them in to one of the agencies...

congratulations again!

This guy. Has to say 5 exclusive foilboard cards. Some others would say all-star game cards for instance

Surprisingly enough, if I showed you the cards that came out of these sets, you might puke. My 4 year old kid could draw a straighter line without a ruler than a lot of these cards looked.

So many were crooked and bent and disgusting. I was hoping to grade all of the Acuna’s and torrres, but most aren’t gradeable.

I’ll see if I can get a picture up later of what I mean.

The Acuna Miiiiight grade out a 10, I have my fingers crossed, but am assuming a 9 until I see otherwise.

Yeah I definitely believe you on the base cards packed into the set. But on the foilboards I would think most of those come out of the box in pretty decent shape?

Was just looking at 2017 Bowman 1st Chrome PSA 10s - did this just recently start outselling US250 PSA 10s? I admittedly haven't checked prices on the 1st in a couple of months but I could have sworn in March or around then, US250 was at least 1.5x compared to the Chrome 1st.

Bottom corners are rough on a lot of them. I assume it’s when the boxes are moved around so much, but who knows

Crazy, just looked at the pop for all of the foilboards.
Tons of 10’s and 9’s

But Torres has 2 6’s and a 7 out of 17 graded!!! Wow!

Acuna Action PSA 10 went for $750 this morning, now only 4 left on eBay with the cheapest one at $999... if he gets off to a hot start watch out on these babies!

Yeah...the Acuna and Torres base cards were late additions inserted into the set after the rest of the set had been printed...so it was more of a manual process which is why those two cards in particular were not in as good of condition as the rest of the set.

Yes...the 1st Bowman Chrome has finally caught up to the US250...took a while but the value of the 2017s are getting up there. I don't know the print runs of both but my impression is that the chrome is lower than the US250. The Mega counterpart should see a jump soon seeing how the base version is where it's at right now, given the much lower print run of the Mega.

Excited to post photos once graded!!!
Wow nice hit! Congrats

The Pop reports on BGS are weird...

There is 1 entry under "Foilboard"
There are 9 entries for "Sparkle Foil"

PSA has graded 10 of these. So there are 20 copies graded. You have to think that most of these have been graded if they have been pulled but let's say 40 copies graded and raw are out "in the wild" That's a ton of them still left in the boxes sealed up. This card will heat up IMO as more people catch onto it. Am I way off here thinking this?

I think you’re spot on.

It’s why I bought the 15 sets when I did. Was planning on opening 3 and keeping the rest sealed and holding for a long time.

Maybe I should’ve kept the 14 closed after I hit the first, but who here is able to keep wax sealed?

I totally agree with you...this card should be a pretty popular parallel in terms of both looks and how few copies there seem to be out there. The difficulty and cost of pursuing a copy is pretty daunting; it’s why I thought the last auction that went for $4200 for a psa 10 or so looked a little lower than I would have thought relative to some other, more plentiful alternatives. Clearly I’m wrong, though, because I think someone said there’s a BIN for a BGS 10 for $5k still out there waiting for someone.

You could spend $90-$100 on a 2018 hobby complete set and pull one in the first box, as we just saw. But on average, with 702 cards and 5/pack, you would need to on average open 140 boxes or spend $13/14k to do it. I could see that cost to play moving up even more, if acuna and torres base cards appreciate and complete sets’ prices move up.

I wouldn't recommend chasing Acuna Foilboard by opening the sets. I broke a case a few months ago. Not a single Foilboard worth $5. Even worse, I only pulled two Acuna and two Torres base to send to PSA. That is worse than what other's have experienced, but shows the potential for downside at current prices.

I didn’t know a thing about these foilboard cards until someone posted about the Acuna /190 a year or two ago. I wasn’t alone as every major online retailer sold out of these factory sets within an hour ($35 each then). I was fortunate enough to buy a sealed case of sets for around $400 that day. When they reloaded they were $20 or so more per set, and have gone up ever since. They are definitely going to be one of the top Acuna rookies to have.

Lol so true...I looked at the checklists for series 1 and 2 again, and 702 players is a LOT. There’s a ton of names in there that I just don’t need foilboard parallels of right now...

Agreed
Like I said, after I opened them all, I realized how lucky I got to get the Acuna and would’ve kept 12 sealed had I not hit it. The sets are still cheap enough that I could see a big increase in them next year or two.

They will for sure continue to go up. The floor is still okay when you consider that you have Ohtani, Devers, Albies, Buehler, Flaherty, etc in addition to Acuna/Torres. And those aren't Complete Set designations. They're Series 1/2, so better value.

Just posted about these a week ago in here I think?

These will be $300-400 dollar chase sets for the foils obviously.

That’s probably modest.
