My 49 Bowman has paper loss over the ring advertisement on the bottom which to my mind is the perfect place for it. All the important text is still there and legible.

well said! reverse paperloss is the best (with small pinhold being next) for collectors

Honestly when I found my AA 1952 copy at Charlotte this year I felt the same way. Some idiot (with what looks like a pair of scissors) tried to trim the left edge at some point and it saved me thousands of dollars compared to what a similar eye appeal example with a number grade would have cost me.

exactly. i was thinking about this (the altered thing) just this week.
years ago it was so so taboo to even think about buying slabs that
stated "Altered". So many of us (myself included) just poo poo'd them
and passed up saving so much money.

Now there are some cards that most people cannot obtain, even in Altered Grade

Cards that are super altered in an obviously highly-skilled way are still a bit tough for me to stomach. Part of why I bought this one was that the trim job is just so BAD that I almost think a small child did it in the 1950s after his little brother scuffed the corner of the card or something.

Of course I say that but my buddy has a very nicely trimmed 54 Aaron in an altered holder with perfect centering and registration that he got for a fraction of what I paid for my PSA 2. Sometimes I do wonder if he's the smart one in this situation.....

yea, that rolls back to what we were talking about earlier about how it was taboo to buy them back then.

but now it really is about what one can "afford" and what they are willing to never really own if they dismiss the A grade
