They never did assign a PSA 10.

Bought this the same time as a US250 clear and I paid much less for the 700, hahaha.

Ugh I'm pretty sure I was second for that last PSA 8 700 Clear that sold and I only missed the end because I was at the gym. Still stings

I appreciate the advice/discussion. While I can see the argument from both sides, I think I’m gonna stick with the auto. The scarcity of the clear is huge but I don’t want to give up the difference in what I feel is the current value between the two.

Based on this sale I don’t think the US1 would be over 5k. So while the clear is super rare I’d be on the losing end of the value part of this trade to the tune of about $2500

You can see the sale as a data point here:

https://www.sportscardinvestor.com/c...hing-700/psa-8

But not sure why you can't see it in 130point or ebay...

Thanks, I only use 130 and eBay.

That seems like an extremely low sale, either that or the clears are just not as desirable as maybe they should be.

No, but it's called "home run sausage card" so I'm pretty sure it was a give away when you bought the grocery meat products. Pretty awesome you can find stuff like this at the grocery store for free in Japan, lol.

Clears have never really commanded extreme prices and the desirability somehow always outweighs the actual sale price. I've heard critics complain that it's not an actual baseball card made of paper stock. That said, things can change at the drop of a hat so I definitely see them as a future riser and should not be dismissed.

Common Sho clears from 2020-24 go for 1-2K range so it's hard for me to believe a 2018 would only be 5K IF listed properly. The keyword search between "clear" and "acetate" make it hard for search to effectively identify new auction listings. I've missed a few myself and pounded my desk in remorse

I think part of what suppresses clear prices is how unlikely you are go get a 10 on one. We all know people looooove their 10 grades.

The main reason I've never had any real interest in a S2 Clear even though I have camo/indy/foilboard/gold and was at once point gonna try for the entire rainbow is that 2018 flagship paper parallels are absolutely gorgeous in a way the clears simply aren't. The 2018 clear basically has the same "parallel" design as 2019-2025 so that particular clear it isn't as appealing to me.

I hear you but I think once Sho's legacy is cemented, the rarest 8/9s are going to sell for more just like NBA retiree playing day cards like MJ/Kobe or even early LeBron. There is also precedence for big money on acetate/plastic cards from products like essential credentials. Plus, the real beauty of clears is the back of the card that has a completely different design than any other flagship counterpart. They are definitely in the "better in person" category.

Drove a good distance today to close a deal for this card in person:

With this acquisition, I can happily say I have successfully completed my collection goals for 2025 Not the highest grade/subgrades but presentation is good for me and it's within my budget.

I must admit that I have a serious case of ADHD as I veered off course multiple times so far this year (and it's only March!) and acquired cards that were not consistent with the goals I set for myself. I am in the middle of righting some of those wrongs now by forcing myself to "let go" of some cards that, were it not for the fact I have limited means, I would have otherwise squirreled away like Gollum. Not all of us can be ballers like the Mayor and Hammertime (congrats again brother on that write up - what a collection you have, Sir!).

Happy Collecting to All and I hope each of you achieve your collecting goals for 2025 and beyond.
