The Nationals tried that, their offer had $100 million in deferred money and would have paid him until he was 62 (with interest).

Correct.
And rumored to be heavily frontloaded, so years 8-13 won't be bad at all.

How are you happy? Bryce is infinitely better than any OF on the Indians and would make them very dangerous. Even if you don’t like Bryce you should want that instant upgrade

It is not "heavily" frontloaded. Harper will make $10 million in 2019 (plus a $20 million signing bonus). He'll make $26 million a season from 2020-28, then $22 million a season from 2029-31.

Also this doesn’t affect the Phillies going after Trout. Every team should be going after Trout IF he makes it to free agency

Because he's a tool and I wouldn't want to root for him. And I don't believe he is going to be worth the contract he signed. Just my opinion. Not that the Dolans would sign anyone to a contract like that anyway. If we're going to give anyone that money I'd much prefer it to be Lindor when he reaches free agency in a couple years

I forgot about the Show19 cover. My favorite part of all this will be having a Phillies uni on the cover of a video game.

God I hope so. Let them tie down $40+million into a single player. Albeit Trout would be worth the coin whereas Harper was just a splurge

Said this a while ago...he also had a conversation with Carson Wentz about coming to play in Philadelphia was a childhood dream for him...he loves home.

We shall see...

Wow. The guy who ranked 187th last year in WAR gets that kinda dough. Incredible. I’m gonna laugh my butt off when Harper hits .250 for the next ten years. Money well spent. I just wonder how long it will take before Harper starts whining about winning. Seems to me the Braves are on the rise and the Nats could actually progress farther without Harper.

Huge difference with Bonilla: Bonilla's deferral included a reasonable interest rate that was higher than inflation. The Nats offer apparently was at 0% which essentially just makes the headline number look way bigger than it really is.

From what I heard Harper's deal did have interest rate included in deal but no one is going to take a payment plan over 25 years when they can get cash up front elsewhere
