Great cards being posted lately. Love rookies more than anything, but there are deals all around if you look

As a sapphire fan, it's kinda cool that we get color matches by default moving forward.

Not as big as most cards on here, but did pretty well on the last PSA submission. My collection is more mid to high end rookies, numbered cards and short prints. Probably need to sell some stuff to put towards an auto or two.

All Shohei cards welcome here, and those are some good ones!

I also need to add more autos to my PC, I'd be curious to see how any Ohtani autos there are between the collectors on this sub. I know TB and AMac have dozens at least
I have a handful hiding around here somewhere

I've noticed that the rate of appreciation on rookie autos, especially entry level and high end, have been disproportionately higher than other categories, including #d rookie cards. A contributing factor is that the frequency of the "good stuff" popping up like heritage ROAs, BCAs, and even TC/Finest has sharply decelerated. Every time one of these cards is posted, even base, there are at least 100-200 watchers.

I don't know if these trends continue, but shifting the collection to accommodate a few autos is probably not a bad idea.

All that said, Topps Black, TC Gold/Orange/Red, Flagship SSPs, and any licensed supers will always do well

if you are going to buy an auto, make it an early one IMO.

he will be signing autos for topps for the next few decades

I also sense an Ichiro-like (or even Jeter) "sign to the moon" possibility once he retires. The original auto is where it's at unless you're buying supers.

Where do you see Indy's in 20 years? Indy's will have an established lineage and a significantly lower print run than blacks unless the numbering system changes. Plus 2018 is awesome, and will be the year that established that parallel.

2018 parallels will always be chased and high grade indies (9+) will age nicely, but will also be very narrow/niche. Basically, you're relying on pent up demand from a relatively small group of collectors. In contrast, the number of collectors pursuing a rookie auto or even a TC Gold will be greater.

will Indy ever recover from the disaster that is 2020 through 2023?

Those years the cards look like the $2 walmart gold stars versions.

2019 is iffy as well due to there being NO BLUE on the card

i agree that 2018 and 2024 look incredible though.

A 2019 indie 600 (pitching) rookie cup PSA 10 was just sold for 2,750 yesterday so I think that's the cutoff year. Nothing beats 2018 though.

Is Shohei a batter who pitches or a pitcher who bats?

Fans today generally think of him as the former, but Ohtani was overwhelmingly considered the latter when he first arrived.

Before he came over most scouts said he would never be successful as a hitter.

I was informed that it was $100K range via direct bank wire, but I'm unable to verify -$300K+ seems a bit overweight even for crazy 2021. He also sold the #150 superfractor for $100K range if memory serves. Those were both staggering numbers back then, but feel very light at the moment.

All I know is that the Yankees are lucky they didn't get Ohtani. A scout was also quoted that Ohtani is like a high school hitter..

Shohei considers himself to be a pitcher first FWIW, all his goals he wrote out from HS are pitching milestones

He just won the MVP doing his side gig

Appreciate it guys. I have quite a few 2019-2024 numbered and SP Ohtani cards. Would the play be to sell those off to put towards an early auto? So far, I consider myself a collector who's trying to amass as big of an Ohtani collection as I can, however, lately I'm looking at the money I'm putting into those, and it may make more sense to put those towards something bigger. I know it's up to me when it comes to what kind of collection I create but also looking at ROI. Thanks for the help

I was in a similar boat a few years ago. I didnt have a big budget when I started collecting Ohtani cards so I was aiming more at quantity over quality. It got to a point where I had hundreds of different low-mid end Ohtani serial numbers cards/SPs from over the years and his market was starting to really heat up. I decided to try and sell some of my accumulated Ohtanis so I could consolidate up into rarer RC parallels and autos. It's been working out so far and I've been able to add some very nice cards that I would have never been able to afford without selling. It can be tough to let go of certain cards but just remind yourself its going to a better card.
Like TB said the Rookie year stuff especially autos and low numbered flagship/chrome will always be the cream of the crop, so that would be the target for consolidating into imo.
You just have to find that balance between quantity/quality that's right for you and your PC.

You could also try grading for maximum ROI on the gradeable cards you do decide to sell. Now is a good time to submit and get them back in time for the Spring Training hype. Either way good luck, it's a fun time to be able to collect a player like Shohei Ohtani. He's truly a 1/1
