LOS ANGELES -- Shohei Ohtani is keeping elite company.

The Japanese superstar caps 2024 by winning The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for the third time, tying him with basketball great Michael Jordan. He trails only four-time winners Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods and LeBron James.

"I'm very honored," Ohtani said through interpreter Matt Hidaka in an exclusive interview with the AP. "Obviously all the hard work has paid off. Maybe next year, I'll get the award again."

It's baffling to me that some folks are not even convinced he is a future hall of famer, how blind do some have to be literally looking at greatness?

There was so much hate and denial in 2021 when Sho broke the mind of the average baseball fan. Since then (three years), there has been a slow and steady acceptance that he's the real deal. I have a feeling that in three to five more years, the rest of those folks will be forced into submission. Just let it happen.

Where this is greatness, there is hateness...

Always.

Who is saying Ohtani is not/will not be a HOF? The writers I see that post on ESPN, The Athletic, Fangraphs, etc. all think Ohtani is a HOF right now or will be once he reaches 10 years of playing. Some have in fact said even if he didn't play for 10 years they would put him in the HOF.

Ohtani is the LeBron James of baseball. The best player in the game and compared to only past greats like Babe Ruth.

The adoption rate for the masses has been slow, but I believe that we are making really great gains now.

The Greatest Sho-man indeed!

No hits in my ohtani 50/50 box. Scammed by Topps themselves!

That's awful. I feel like loose packs have been a lot more consistent with hits. At least you didn't pay the ridiculous resale prices.

I'm probably just going to display my boxes when they arrive as decorative flair to my Sho shrine and also get a few packs slabbed.

Recent Pickups...

Was able to pick up another one of these for nearly $100 cheaper than a couple months back. Love averaging down.

In the same spirit, had to buy a couple boxes of 2024 Ginter X and was fortunate to pull two Sho's, here they are:

Finally, a couple Indy pickups for 2024 Topps that I couldn't live without:

None of the above raw will likely gem but will send to PSA in the new year anyway.

Ginter X in my opinion seems like a super underrated card based on the PR of 1000. For those who have collected other players in the past at what point do PR and low pop cards gain in price? Would it be closer to when the player retires or is inducted into the HOF. Or will collectors not really care?

Ginter X I am not sure in general...Ohtani Ginter X demand I assume would be higher than normal Ginter due to the print run.

Tell you what...I will buy all the Ginter X that you and everyone else has! I am the demand!!! Then I will have a monopoly on the card. So if there is any other excess demand they will have to bend the knee to buy one from me!!!

Love Ginter X but there are plenty of Sho cards <1,000 PR that should see their due before X does. Not saying a jump won't happen one day, but it will not occur spontaneously.

The last two 2018 Ginter x Ohtani’s that sold went for $697 and $911.

It’s hard to get a 10 though.

Raw generally sells $100-150
