Yeah, I'm not sure even a healthy, pitching Ohtani would beat Judge this year assuming Judge keeps destroying baseballs.

It's not just the past 45 days. It's the past 3 years, except for when he ran over the outfield wall in Los Angeles and kicked the concrete foundation with his big toe... making a game-saving catch, to boot.

He was doing this last year up until that point, carrying the entire team on his back, and he did it all of 2022, too.

Production numbers-wise, he's consistently ranking alongside (and even ahead of) Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds. Never in my life did I think we'd ever see something like that, especially not in this age of pitcher dominance.

A couple of commentators have said it over and over again, and I agree: I don't think most people realize how special this is.

Feeling some FOMO for not collecting Judge! What are his prices like today compared to 2017 and 2022 (MVP year)? Thinking of adding some Judge to the PC this off season.

On the same page as far as FOMO lol. Was very surprised to see his Topps and Bowman chrome base autos in a PSA 10 selling for less than 1k. I’ve decided to add one of these in a PSA 9 for around $500-$600, probably the Bowman because it’s a better looking card to me.



I’d also like to hear some opinions on his pricing, he seems low to me considering his numbers and his team.

Age and injury history are working heavily against him. Not to mention prices have cooled off on basically all singles.

People already bought in during his homerun record chase and even then prices cooled considerably after. No point in buying during this hot streak or any for that matter unless it's a long term hold.

I can only speak for myself! I really only buy to collect for the long term. I assume that Judge prices today are actually below when he was a RC or during his MVP year, but I don't know that for sure. I am a low end collector, so my plan is to pick up low end items (base RC, parallels, numbered etc.) in the off season. I imagine his BCA and RC autos are quite pricey.

I really like Judge, but the reason I never collected him when I entered the hobby during Covid was because of his age and injury history. I also think that Ohtani is a better long term player to bet on long term.

From my outside perspective Judge has like 40 WAR less than Trout and they are the same age (but aging very differently) so I also ponder if Trout is a better buy right now than Judge.

If Judge stays healthy through his current contract (I think he has 8 year left) He should be able to add another 20 to 40 WAR and be a HOF guy (health permitting), but in terms of milestone numbers that are revered he will not get to 3000 hits (he may not even get to 2000 hits), but he should be able to get to at least 500 HR.

If he wins a ring or two with the Yankees, he should have a lot of staying power in the hobby.

This is my outside perspective at the moment. Would love for others who are more knowledgeable to give their opinion.

I've been collecting since 2017 and Judge has been all over the place in terms of prices. If you were patient enough, every slump or every injury or missed post season was an amazing opportunity. Additionally, the following year Rookie classes were Soto/Acuna/Ohtani and after that was Tatis/Vlad/Alonso. There were so many other popular players to attract spending that long term buys in a good human, record breaking athlete, Yankee Captain was deemed too risky.

Over the years, I've picked up just about everything I wanted with a few exceptions on cards that never dipped.

Heritage Red Auto's & Chrome Gold Ref RC's never drop.

During the 2017 year, I picked up all chrome base I could find for $6-8 but you can still buy most any brand base for under $50, some for $10-15. Refractors are reasonable . Pickings are still good if you are starting from scratch IMO. Numbered stuff is pricier obviously but price corrections have made some stuff more attainable again.

I personally do not get why it's something to even bring up. We all know Bonds was an amazing athlete pre-steroids and became a freak after. Comparing that to what incredible/performance Judge is having is doing a disservice in my opinion to him.
