It only even matters in random team breaks. I just buy the Niners when I buy into a break (which isn't often), so doesn't matter to me if CJ Stroud and Bryce Young have autos in terms of that decision.

Do you blame Panini or the general hobby overall? For far too long people label anything they want or feel as a case hit. Theres even some inserts that fall every 5 or 10 cases and people still call those case hits. In Mosaic, Optic or Prizm theres some inserts that fall 2-3 per case and breakers or randoms still call them case hits. Its just laziness or ignorance. I guess explicit pack odds or even basic serial numbering would help distinguish between all the various releases. Until then all we can do is look at PoP reports and make approximate guesses at PRs.

It should noted that Optic has historically produced 2-3x Donruss Downtown for PSA pops. Based on what was seen this week that number is likely to be much higher. Or all the hobby boxes will just be dust.

Downtowns have been at or higher of pop vs. Kaboom for a while. These are not the only unnumbered 'case hit'inserts but certainly get the most hate. I'm not a huge fan of Optic DT with Lazer but I do get the popularity. This is not going g to kill that. But if we end up seeing 1k Stroud DTs in pop report a year from now I'm guessing values will plummet from current asks.

I'm happy getting my team set cards without getting a hobby box dusting. Moving on to 2024!

Can someone explain the continued disdain for these two inserts? Speaking for myself, they are the two insert holdings that have had the least decline in value for mid end options. Obviously the greater hobby disagrees with your opinion.

I'm not promoting either, and I genuinely like the Downtown Holo Donruss version. This seems to be a common refrain around here.

I think it's just a question of taste

I like them personally but they are on the cartoony side

Interesting argument. I personally had each of these graded and held as PC. I will tell you as a Lawrence and Walker PC collector they have the most price stability. I disagree with hot potato. I did grade and sell 2 other 21 Kaboom Lawrence's since I only needed 1. I won't be selling the rest. Because they are literally the only mid end cards who have essentially held value.

I love the Downtown and Kabooms personally. I honestly forgot I had a Brees DT from 2018 Optic until a couple weeks ago while sorting cards. I even found the confirmation email from ebay - paid $12.50. Easily $300+ card now. Wild times.

Sick cards

I am a fan in general of the downtowns though I will say they kind of vary in how good the designs are

Like your tlaw one there is really cool but cj stroud's is like... bulls in space suits? in space? because it's houston which did space stuff back in the day and also the bulls are the texans mascot? like... yeah

I think the panini one and one basketball ones do the best job of making the design match either the city the player plays for or the team, like this paolo one

Kabooms are fine in my book. I like the comic vibe.

Downtowns look like a third grader drew them. They need better freelance graphic artists for those

I think many purists dislike them for their faux rarity with Panini claiming they're SP/SSP and pop reports telling another story completely.

Panini says they're rare, so people assume they are and pay a premium for them.

But too many of us were around for the Jagr/Maddux Gold Finest fiasco from 1996.

It's a dumpster fire. Not sure what Panini expected.

Love to know how Panini stating that packout on hobby was normal and unaffected warns people not to buy hobby.

Anyone notice Panini said they have a new print manufacturer? Does this mean product releases will start going back to normal?

I mean, Panini is already lying, as this definitely affects the run for hobby. I doubt all those numbered DTs were exclusively FOTL, that makes less that would be in hobby.

Not sure how both can be true, tons in one configuration, rest are normal.

That sounds like bad math.

FOTL or hobby? Because I saw FOTL random breaks going for 700 per on Tuesday. Imagine paying that and getting stuck with Commanders.

I picked specific team for Jags team set and now once again off the breaking until 2024 Optic comes out.

For those who care it was $289 for a full case of FOTL - Jags. I think picking Texans was close to $1900
