Default In all of MLB, how many players hit .300 or above in 2015?

Answer: 20

I have to look back and research to see what the lowest total ever was, but that seems incredibly low.

That's about average I'd say, hitting .300 is harder than people realize. I want to say there's only 10 active players who are hitting .300+ for their career (I believe they use 3000 ABs as the minimum to qualify).

I'd be really curious to see a stat with that averages would be without the extreme shifts we now see. There are now multiple times in a game where either the SS or 2B is standing half way in the OF and the other is behind 2B. This has to be hurting averages

Hitting .300 is a huge feat since it's much different in today's baseball world. Starting Pitchers hit 95-100+ and having crazy multiple pitches. Then you deal with specialists and setup/closers who can rear back and throw heat and nasty stuff for an inning.

Back in the day you'd have a low-mid 90's guy go out and pitch a "quality start" no matter how bad he was pitching and then have a reliever/closer come in.

Exactly 10 - miggy, ichiro, pujols, mauer, votto, posey, cano, holliday, braun, vmart

Also worth noting only one of the top 25 career batting leaders all time played a game in the past 50 years (Gwynn)

2014- only 16
2013- 24
2012- 25
2011- 26
2010- 23
2009- 42!!! where did that come from!
2008- 34!!
2007- 40!!
2006- 38!

so the last 10 years worth...it started declining rapidly in 2010...is that when steroid testing really kicked into high gear?? idk...

but 4yrs straight of 34 or more players...and in the 6 yrs since '09 26 was the high mark and dropped all way to 16 guys at .300+ last year...

Steroid testing shouldn't have anything to do with it. Home runs would decrease but that should be it.

What kicked in to get in 2010 was the influx of incredible young pitching talent. It's gotten better every year.
