I was at a card show a week ago and noticed one guy just grabbing up all the Tigers cards he could get his hands on. He seemed a bit odd, so I didn't engage him in conversation. But it did get me thinking....what do people collect mostly? Is it some favorite players? Cards from your favorite team? Do you set build? Do you only collect numbered, auto, or relics?
I collect players only (main ones are George Brett, Cal Ripken, Roger Clemens, Ken Griffey Jr, A-Rod, Frank Thomas). I used to build or buy sets, but have been breaking those up lately to pull stars and rookies. |

A little bit of all I guess. Mostly collect one player (Daniel Robertson - pretty much anything), but have my fair share of Mets cards as well as a couple sets: 2013 Topps Series 1 (first set I ever completed - love the look) and am attempting to get the entire 2013 Topps Pro Debut set signed (about 70% complete with names such as Buxton and Taveras included).

1) The players I mentioned above 2) 1985 and before star cards (players above, plus guys like Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, Pete Rose and so on). It made a huge difference in my approach at card shows. I've been breaking up sets like I mentioned (broke up 83, 84, and 85 Topps sets last night) and will be working on the others. |

I stick to Angels, player collections and rookies.
Always been an Angels fan, so I started collecting all Angels cards I could find. I try not to get too many dupes of them but I love when I open old packs and I find Angels in them. Then I have a few players that I try to at least have one card of them from every year that they played, and some oddball stuff of them. If I can get more, then fine, But I like putting them in a book so having dupes doesn't make much sense. Then I buy a few boxes every year and keep and collect the whole set of rookies and sell/trade everything else.

I mainly focus on players (i.e. Frank Thomas, Hank Aaron, Roger Maris, Jose Abreu, Chris Sale, etc etc). I'll hone in on a set I really like (i.e. 1957 Topps, 1993 donruss elite dominators, etc) and will strive to pick up stars from those sets. I guess at times I am a partial set builder, hehe. When I got back in this hobby in March 2014 I was all over the place at various card shows and on eBay. Now when I go to card shops and ebay I am much more focused and have a better idea on what I am looking for. I love the thrill of the hunt when I am searching for a specific card in the condition that I seek. I am also fortunate to live in an area where I can attend various card shows on a regular basis. It's a lot of fun when you discover something new to add to the collection.

The Jordan card looks awesome. I am surprised there isn't a card of the Big Hurt in there...

I agree....especially when you look at some of the other names that made it into the set.

I collect all Yankees cards although I have about 16 players I buy more often month to month. Everyone else is purchased mainly through new sets or bulk lots. I also purchase a few complete sets each year.

Growing up in New York in the 60's, my friends were all Mets fans so I've been one since then. I collect only 1969 Mets items because some of my best childhood memories were of my mom taking me to games at Shea. We were actually at the 5th game of the '69 W.S. when they won it all. I have one of our spare bedrooms that I'm working on that will be my "shrine" to the '69 Mets.

Phillies, players that are from my hometown (Seager bros), players that I have some other personal connection to (Matt Joyce), and players that I just like (Harper).
