Question Watt could be best TE in NFL?

J.J. Watt - Could Houston Texans defensive end be one of NFL's best tight ends? - ESPN
David Fleming thinks so
"ever wanted to switch to the other side of the ball and go back to his original position of tight end, he would never be as good as, say, the Patriots Rob Gronkowski.

He'd be better. Much, much better.

I'm not disparaging Gronkowski. Not even close. He's freakish and phenomenal. I just think Watt would be light-years better."

This is just flat out stupid and I have no skin in the game. I don't care about Gronk, Watt, New England, or Houston.

Gronk is the best position player in the game when he's 100% healthy. To just assume that Watt would be better, and apparently light years better, is asinine.

And I'm not disparaging Watt to use the writers word. He's one hell of a player and probably the best defensive player in the game.

But might as well say LeBron would be the best TE in Football because he's also bigger and faster than Gronk

He'd probably be pretty good. I honestly think Watt and Gronk are just the two best football players in the league.

My line was going to be "Lebron James disagrees" but I was beat to the punch.

So instead I'll leave you with this:

lol

Could you imagine him out there trying to run real routes?

JJ Watt is the man but that's just stupid.

He'd probably have to drop 20lbs or so, not sure how he would go about that.

ok now this is going way too far for even Watt, granted he is a great player ,but best TE lol Gronk,Graham,Gates alone would tear him up and there is probably a list of about 10 or more, that could do the same .

And OP is Pats fan ,that is just wrong lol

based on what?? The 1 and 2 yard passes that he has caught?? We can't even say he'd be a decent tight end until we see him catch a 25 yard pass knowing someone is getting ready to light him up

There is a reason Watt stopped being a TE in college.

Watt couldn't play TE realistically. He's too slow and couldn't run routes or catch as well as Gronk. Three one-yard TD passes isn't particularly showing a lot of versatility, but he could definitely play any position along the defensive line.

LMAO!! Watt is a BEAST but i bet Luke Kuekly can argue that "best overall"topic if the panthers put him in as TE... Luke K needs to catch some passes & the panthers could definitely use some help. Luke K is prob a better QB than Cam. Both are just flat out amazing players

I'm a saints fan and id agree to drop Brees & coach payton for those 2.

The 1st was a gimmick:

The 2nd was a really nice catch with good coverage:

The 3rd showed great hands. By now, the defense knows that when Watt enters on offense near the goal line the ball is going to him. Three passes thrown to him - three touchdowns. Watt is an offensive weapon.

Another shock and awe article.

I wouldn't be surprised if Watt Could develop into a starting Tight end, but to assume he would be able to play a different position at a hall of fame level is small minded.

I doubt you're a big Saints fan with that statement...Even having those two, not sure you are guaranteed any superbowls. But maybe im just bitter at that statement, but that just seems like an over reaction

Not for this thread necessarily, but for other things, mostly for being a Pats fan.
