I know nothing about these things? I noticed a lot have showed up on my ebay search recently.
How do people acquire these? Fake?

They are identical to the pack-pulled superfractors, but are missing the serial number. They originate from uncut sheets; these uncut sheets were giveaways through social media contests, and pack inserted redemption cards. Some speculate they were back doored, but those reports have not been substantiated. Dealers took the uncut sheets to a printer to professionally cut them, then sell them individually.
I find these make wonderful collectibles, and a more affordable alternative when the pack-pulled versions are not an option. While most test proof superfractors sell at a reasonable discount, some star test proof superfractors like Trout and Jeter can fetch $$$. The infamy comes to play when nefarious individuals try and pass these off as pack-pulled superfractors. |

Ok. Thank you for the info. I assumed they were somewhat legit. Basically they are overpriced cards with superfractor material on them.

I think saying they're identical to pack pulled cards (minus the numbering) is a bit misleading. You can tell a test proof from the real deal 95% of the time. The test proof edges are almost always cut too wide and give a general "I'm fake" vibe.
Secondly, I (or any other custom maker) could make a card very similar to the test proofs at any time, so I definitely wouldn't consider them even "somewhat legit". Just my 2 cents, but these are widely viewed in the same light as fakes. As others have mentioned, there are LOTS of discussions about these suckers on here already.

Furthermore, saying that you can tell the difference 95% of the time, and that the edges are almost always cut wide, is very melodramatic and exaggerated. While some can be poorly cut, many are professionally cut by printers using lasers. I own over 24 packed pulled superfractors, and about a dozen test proof superfractors. On one particular card, I own both the packed pulled AND the test proof, and they are IDENTICAL (aside from the serial number). |

For reasons that none of us know, these have made their way into the open market in sheet form through numerous auction houses. Not just superfractors, but base cards as well as all other versions of refractors. They are typically cut larger than regular cards (why, I'm not sure) and are NOT stamped in any way (although with the fraud running through the hobby, I suspect that's forthcoming).
Rest assured Topps DID make them, but did not intend for them to enter the hobby, to the best of our knowledge. Be careful. |

The border can be cut, the serial #ing can be added, and an auto can be obtained. |
