Default Another probstein thread....

So here is the current listing...
1993 SP Foil 279 Derek Jeter Rookie RC Yankees Signed BGS JSA Authentic Auto | eBay

And here is the "SOLD" listing from 6/26
1993 SP Foil 279 Derek Jeter Rookie RC Yankees Signed BGS JSA Authentic Auto | eBay

I'm not saying Probstein did the shilling, but they sure did relist it at a similar BIN price. This is why I almost always just move along when I see probstein as the seller. Thoughts?

Is it not possible that the high bidder didn't pay?

definitely possible, but this is not an isolated event. And if a buyer truely did not pay, why would ther relist it EVEN HIGHER as a BIN? Wouldn't you think they'd do another auction?

I despise shilling as much as the next person but think it through a little. The guy is listing THOUSANDS of items and is suppose to police suspicious activity?

If you were in his shoes would you hire a cyber crimes expert to monitor your auctions at all times? Of course you wouldn't.

This horse isn't dead, it's already decomposed.

So for the 8 millionth time, people that send their items into Probstein or PWCC to sell bid on their own items.

Ignorance, if that is the case again, absolves you of any responsibility? Interesting. Please, tell me more.

fot the 8,000,001th time, this may be true, but those same people didn't relist it for $6 more than the allegedly "shilled" price.

When a WalMart driver is involved in killing an innocent man, you must make the choice to patronize the store or not. As tragic as that is, I'm guessing it has not hurt their bottom line. As ridiculous as that comparison is, it's really at the heart of this debate. If you don't want to deal with Probstein, then don't. I've never sold anything through the man, so I have zero interest in it.

Secondly, every auction in history is filled with shills. Go to a farm machinery auction and watch millionaires bid just to spite the other guy. Sheriff auctions of property are filled with flippers who will bid just to raise the price on another flipper.

Again, choose to do business with him or not. Choose to buy Nike's made in Sri Lanka or not.

Same for me. I assume zero chance of winning.

I do not deal in analogies, so come correct or do not at all.

That's not shill bidding. That's gambling to hurt a competitor. If they don't out-bid you, you're stuck buying that farm machinery or siezed property.

Shill bidding is often illegal (unlike bidding to spite another bidder) and is explicitly against eBay policy.

I don't mind dealing with him. I just out in my max bid and if it gets shilled, oh well. I move on and bid on something else. I treat his auctions just like any other. Fact is, don't bid more than you are willing to pay.

Also, I don't know him & certainly have never used him and never will. I don't condone what he does by any stretch

You guys are crazy to rule out bidding on probstein auctions but im all for it... Probably the reason i got a card at less than half its value a month or two ago... Owner started shillin it and his main bidder dropped out after it was bid up to his current max... I sniped and nobody else bid.. Boom. Steal and a half.. Got me looking at other sales from probstein and it happens quite often.
