Talking One More Box of 2014 Ginter - 1/1 Sketch Mini

So I stopped by the LCS again on my way home and was hoping to pick up a box of 2014 Goodwin Champions because I had just done a full case of Ginter last week, but they were out, so I did get a box of Ginter instead. Glad I did!

I won't bore everyone with a full accounting of cards, but here were the highlights:

SP base minis: #312 Mike Mussina, #340 Dennis Eckersley
SP Ginter back mini: #350 Manny Machado
Black-border minis: #67 Omar Visquel, #192 Daniel Nava
Into the Unknown mini: John Cabot
World's Deadliest Predators mini: Hyena
Where Nature Ends mini: Francisco de Goya
Outlaws, Bandits, & All-Around Ne'er-Do-Wells mini: Billy the Kid

Relics:
David Price (light blue jersey)
Anthony Bourdain (white fabric piece)

And then in the very last pack...
Julio Teheran Rip Card #26/75

Rip cards numbered higher than 25 are automatic rips for me. I've gotten three rip cards this year all to either /50 or /75 and ripped all three. The first /75 was a Robinson Cano EXT mini, the second /50 was a Will Middlebrooks red ink auto mini /10, and this one was... I'll let the picture explain:

Boom!

Obviously, there is a slight problem with the front of the card... the black paper that covers the mini inside the rip card was adhered to the card itself, and when it peeled off, it left streaks and marks. It's not too bad (certainly mine looks better than some of the others I've seen), but my question is what I should do about it? Is this something that it's worth contacting Topps about?

Thanks for checking out my break!

Not particularly sure what you mean by that. Are you being sarcastic?

Either way, I rather like the sketch card. I just wish Davis was doing better this year. Last year he had 53 homers or something like that. This year .199 BA and just 15 homers.

I doubt Topps would do anything about that. Are they really going to ask Brian Kong to make another one? Nope. Just keep it or sell it.

You're probably right. Just soliciting opinions though. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to contact Topps and ask. I mean, their method of packaging this card did cause it to become damaged. I appreciate the opinion though!

You're right. It wouldn't hurt to contact Topps and ask about whether they can or are willing to do something for you. I wouldn't hold out on any hope of some sort of replacement. They'll probably just give you an apology and say how they don't guarantee the condition of cards which they sell.

Either way, I am pretty happy with the card. It's still quite nice to have. Not even sure I want to get rid of it (via ebay or on here) until I've had a chance to appreciate it in my collection for a bit lol

Truthfully, Topps really does not care about the customer or collector. They sell in such large volume they rarely listen to any feedback or requests. The few times I have heard about them being responsive is after a BBB complaint. Nice hit!

It's a known issue. Most, if not all, sketch cards were damaged like this. I think there was a thread about it on here.

...here it is:
