So you had to email Topps in order to crack the code but there was absolutely nothing anywhere to indicate that was the necessary first step?

I personally think this thread should be closed because the 3 or 4 guys that solved the code do NOT deserve to be bashed this way. It is an amazing achievement to crack this code for the 2nd consecutive year. The 3-4 guys obviously do this as a hobby, just like we collect cards as a hobby. Nobody deserves to be bashed for a great achievement except Barry Bonds home-run record because he cheated by taking Steroids

This thread was brought to my attention as I do not frequent here, but is a response even warranted?

Nick is fine, and YES the code breakers were contacting me too often for me to get work done, I can not tell you have many scans I sent for free to people, and Nick was not the only one asking about the celestial stars, he was not even the first to ask of the scans of them, BUT was the first to get them from me and quickly, plus I posted them here on BO's code page

There is more info, and I will help other sin the future but people have to understand it is my priority to rip, scan, sort, sell the cards, and funnel through 100s of emails and ebay messages for trades/purchases/scans, etc.... not that easy. I do not have a team.

Since Nick was a former code breaker I helped. Nick's counter part from 2009 was the first to contact me however and asked for cards & scans first before anyone, plus several on this board and elsewhere.

I have no hard feelings towards Nick, and would be willing to help when I could, and can play a larger role next year in provided info/scans, but not to dozens of people, lol. There were people asking for entire front/back scans of EVERY SINGLE CARD!!!! Not to be a jerk, but I could not do it. So others would ask and I would say I have been asked for scans of TDIH & celestial stars & etc...

Anyhow, I can give a full run down but not sure it's necessary.

I was gonna crack the code, but Deadliest Catch came on and Phil died. I was too upset to crack that stupid code.

I have solved the Allin and Ginter's code.

The code is: BABA BOOEY HOWARD STERN BABA BOOEY HOWARD STERN BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY F JACKIE

I am now ready to claim my assortment of fabulous prizes.

I don't blame the guy for trying to crack the code. There are only so many chances for idiot savants to show their talents.

I do get rubbed kind of the wrong way that from all I can tell he essentially only got back into the hobby to crack the code. This situation kind of reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Mr. Burns got all the ringers to play in the league softball championship.

While this is a contest, I don't think people are competing fairly. Calling a guy relentlessly on one of the busiest days of his year is not cool. I'm a CPA and if you came into my office April 15th looking for free tax advice I wouldn't be as nice as Brent (who I don't know but would like to) was.

They need to do something with raised/indented lettering, or brail even so that you have to have cards in hand to decipher so that way this guy and his crew have to spend more than a case each to solve it.

I'm just saying Brent dropped close to if not more than 20,000 (not to mention the several thousands more he spends on other topps products) and he can't even get one strasburg (which alot of people ripped on him for being upset about the disproportionate odds and the LCS/Wholesale debacle), but these guys can call him and call him and call him while he's working his butt off and they get a one of one Strasburg auto plus heyward plus many many more. That just doesn't sit well with me.

I've got the perfect solution to this code though. Have Jacoby write the next one. That way he can show his rain man skills, Brent can do his job without hassle, and somebody else can win. Problem Solved

So bring it genious.

you have an almighty 2 posts and this is what you have to offer?

why should anybody give a rats ass about you or what rubs you the wrong way with your 2 posts?

secodly why bring up a dead subject..Brent said it was a lot of work but there was no harm done, so why does it offend you when the man himself said it was fine?

go crawl back in the hole you came out of and take your 2 postswith you..

-ps- by the way..its genius, not genious..guess you arent as smart as you thought sorry

Good call on the genius spelling, I thought about trying to lie my way out of it like I did it on purpose, but no I totally misspelled it.

I wasn't ragging on anybody (I'm sure as smart as Jacoby is he's been called an idiot savant, rain man, and genious (HA!!). I just don't think you should mess with a man's career for bragging rights. Especially with something as time sensitive trading cards.

I've read a bunch of Mr. Jacoby's posts and you have to admit he is a little arrogant about this whole thing so I was just giving it back in kind. No harm intended and no need to be his guard dog I read his posts and he can defend himself. I honestly figured he'd welcome the challenge.

Brent did say it was cool, and thats awesome of him, but just because I can hit my dog and he'll forgive me after doesn't mean I should or that its okay.

(Crawling back in my hole now or under my rock or whatever you said)

I know everybody feels bad about Brent breaking 20 cases and not getting a Strausburg but the one questions is, who's fault is that other then Topps. I think everybody has guess the the early cases missed the inclusion of the mini and auto redemption while it was included in the later cases.

This year is no different then others for case breakers. You hope to hit something big in your cases to make your money back and sometimes you do and sometimes you don't. Unfortunately, that is how this game works. Pull a DNA card or Dinosaur relic this year and your happy, don't and your scrapping to make your money back.

I am sure for those of you that feel bad for Brent, he would appreciate it if you went on ebay and bought something from him. I at least bought a scan from of the celestial stars cards.

I took Tim's advice to not respond to silly posts, but this guy seems more uninformed than silly, so I want to clear some things up.

First, I didn't get back into the hobby just to crack the code. I got back into the hobby last year after I was going through my old cards. I have no background in codes or the like, but figured it would be cool to get my own card so I gave it a shot...and won. This year I figured the same thing...I won last year, so why not try and defend the title? Even if I had no interest in cards at all and got into it just to crack the code like you said, who cares, it's a contest.

As for "calling Brent relentlessly"...I talked to Brent on the phone THREE TIMES the week Ginter was released. Of those three times, do you know how many times the code was discussed? ONCE. I talked to Brent a couple days before it was released, told him I would buy any of my variations he pulled. The second time I called (after he told me to, I didn't just call him randomly) was a day after he started breaking his cases. I asked him what variations he pulled of mine (again, because I was spending money, not just bugging the guy to get something for free), and then I asked if he knew what the code cards might be because no one else had really started opening a lot of Ginter yet. He said he had no clue AND OFFERED TO SCAN THINGS IF I WANTED...I then asked for the Celestial Stars cards. That is the only conversation Brent and I had about the code until a few days ago when we laughed about how crazy some people were acting on here. The third conversation we had that week was a few days later, and the ONLY thing we discussed was the Strasburg issue...the code didn't even get brought up...oh yeah, and HE CALLED ME this time.

So to break it down, I talked to Brent three times that week. I only called him twice (after he said I could both times) and the third time he called me. The code was only mentioned once.

If you have a problem with Brent not getting a Strasburg (which I do think is a travesty), call Topps, don't complain to me.

As for writing the code, I know Topps wouldn't allow that. Although my team has discussed putting together a code on our own for everyone, and including prizes...more to come on this end.

Brent - Thank you for clarifying.

TK - Hey, bud. Good to see you post.

Cdub - Thanks for the support.

To the guy with 3 posts - Why do you care so much about a matter that has been considered closed? I am glad that you have the opinion that "it doesn't sit well with you." You stated this once. Thank you. I do not believe there is any more need to bash anyone else. Cheers!

Nick / TK - Let's put that code together.

I think that Brent mentioned receiving many calls not to single you out, but to mention that other folks were calling relentlessly (not just one person, but many, I'm sure). No need to defend yourself further.

Hope your weekend is well and I'm sorry you had to see this garbage.

I guess the code-cracker was dedicated and earns a nice prize, I just don't get the point...seems like a marketing gimmick by Topps.

Of course it is a marketing strategy to sell more product. Is that wrong? I suppose we should not allow advertisements on television, print, radio or any other medium.

Congrats to all involved, Nick I contacted you by email inquiring about the David Wright cards. I can't believe people would stoop this low in bashing the team here. Good luck to those who bashed next year...karma is a mother

Hey Nick, thanks again for clarifying that process. I think some guys here (me included) just got the impression from your write-up that you hounded Brent. Add to that the poor guy struck out on his 25 cases I think I just got defensive for him.
You and Footy have definitely gone over the top in trying to clear this up. I (and maybe others) just jumped to conclusions. Sorry.
When you send in your picture next year I would suggest raising one finger... it is up to you which one to raise. Good luck on the three-peat.
