sorry but with no one bidding 1 mil the "Closing price" will be 999,900 which the guy after you picked how did you not say the price it was actually at????

Blowout said in the OP that its the closing price but doesnt say anywhere about being paid for. Now if some of the bids get retracted it might go down A LOT and then it will be up in the air once again lol

If I was the seller, I would have had asked Beckett and Ebay to compete to list the card on their site and negotiate fees as ebay if it does sell is not only profiting on fees but also on free advertising for this auction. I remember once where Yahoo auctions(when they are around) gave a better deal for an auction on an item I believe and the seller didnt have to pay any fees(or maybe it was from ebay, either way, negotiate to benefit better).

This auction seems like a joke, but seriously if your bidding like this as a joke, I think if I was ebay, they are looking at a huge payday on fees as of what it really sells. Why not use this auction as a tool to scam buyers(if it is a non-legit transaction) and work and pay for the seller to legitimately sue the buyer if he doesn't complete the transaction if he wins it. They may not receive much at all in the end but the person losing a judgement for a million dollars will really have their life altered and the publicity could be huge for ebay to deter these non paying buyers from bidding with no intentions of buying. One thing ebay fails out. They can come out proving they wont tolerate people who use the system in the wrong manner.

Just my thoughts but i doubt anyone will ever pay up for this auction and Im sure if for some reason there was a paypal transaction for this, paypal would hold onto the money for a minimum of 30 days or more while they take the million and put it in a 30 or 60 day certificate of deposit and make some interest money off of it and than tell shareholders how much better Paypal is doing for the quarter ending.

This is one of the few examples where the new ebay fee structure is going to be a HUGE savings for the seller. Ebay will only get $50 regardless of what the final price goes for, as that is their 'cap' fee for regular auction style listings. So even assuming the current bidding is not legit, lets say it actually sells for $50K... $50 on $50K is 0.1%. You're not going to beat that no matter where you look.

However, since ebay owns paypal, its the PP fees that will likely take the biggest chunk. Unless the seller can get the buyer to pay by other means, the paypal fees on a $50K transaction would be about $1450. So all in all, ebay would see $1500 in fees. Although, hand delivering it for cash on delivery would probably be cheaper than paying the $1450 paypal fees.

Thanks ohiomike, i guess i will take some of my statement back as I did not know that the fee structure for higher priced items have changed that dramatically. I havent liked ebay really since Meg left and Im not sure if its because of her views or not, i just dont care for much of it anymore but that is my opinion, others can love it or not.

im guessing it gets re-listed, but im guessing it sells for $50,500.00 when it gets re-listed that is. nobody in there right mind would pay 1 mill for a card.

it appears a number of bids have been weeded out today, and the number has come down to $982,000.... still unreasonable... still waiting to make my entry on this to see what happens with the obviously non-legit bids

not sure who removed them but the bids went from 201 down to 150 something, dropping the price from $999,900 to $500,000. odd

Looks like the seller is going about things backward, and contacting the bidders to see if they are serious and then canceling the bids one by one for those that don't respond.

$555,555.

Side note: whoever is bidding it up this high is nuts. If he blows out his arm next start, they got the most expensive coaster in the world.

Yeah, this auction definitely isn't going to work out for him. I'd hate to bid on a card in which I wasn't the high bidder with my bid, only to find out that the seller deleted a whole bunch of bids to make me the high bidder after the fact. Usually when I bid on something, if I bid and am not the high bidder I move on. The winner of this card might be in for a big surprise. Hope he contacted him to find out if the bid is legit and is still interested, then at the same time the winner bidder can say maybe the bids before him aren't legit all the way down to $200,000.00 and wants them removed. The purpose of the auction is to pay one price spot higher then the other bidder.

Crazy8 - I agree with your statement here. I certainly wouldn't want to win an auction by having been backed into it.

Well said Crazy8- this auction can't be concluded can it?
Also, I bet a bunch of those fake bids were placed by agents of Bowman Chrome and Topps to drive up the sales and price of upcoming releases. Ha!

....if you place a bid, you should be happy that you won the auction at the price you were willing to pay; I don't consider that "backing into" an auction.....

But after being outbid, maybe a bidder came to his senses and bought a house for $500,000 instead.
