What an absolute joke. I don't know what would have been worse. Calling the centering a 9. or trying to justify an overall 9.5 with the centering listed correctly at 8.5. Either way, one glance at the card in its 9.5 holder pretty much puts into question every BGS grade they've ever given. I'm not sure they are any more trustworthy than GEM grading anymore. Seems like you can buy your grade there now based on either your level of business with them or the notoriety the grade will get them in cases like this. PSA must be jumping for joy at this... it is sure to get them a lot more future business.

They probably would have rather not had to grade it, either they give it an honest 8.5 or 9.0 and ruin the popularity of the card and their reputation, or they lie and give it 9.5 and increase the popularity of the card and destroy their reputation, lose-lose situation for them

Why would their reputation take a hit if they graded it honestly? By doing this they've done the complete opposite.

I can't believe the 3 of them managed to keep straight faces through the video.

You know they graded it a 9.5 cause its THE STRAS superfractor. They are full of themselves thinking that a 9.5. with that centering i was thinking 8.5.

And if you watch the video they talk about all the damage the card has.

If the card wasn't damaged, it would have been a Pristine, Quad 10.

I just can't believe they were so open to what the flaws were on the card yet being able to justify it being a 9.5. Honestly, I got the opinion that Gem Mint to them was a Pristine 10, and they considered it getting a 9.5 a "demotion" because of the supposed defects, while we see it as the complete opposite. That 9.5 was too high, they felt 10 was too high so they gave it a 9.5

The tap dancing on that video is hilarious. Those guys look like the boss told them what the grade would be and then they had to make it happen.

The first "graded" card I ever bought about 6 years ago was graded by them (GEM). Luckily I passed it onto another collector for a little more than I paid for it.

Very well done, and your cards that all got 9 centering were ALL more centered than the Strasburg, especially the back which is 30/70 at BEST. Makes BGS look more and more like clowns, and hopefully destroys their reputation, because it should!! Thanks for sharing!

let me get this straight,
if the card is off center front and back its a 9
if a card has some issues on a corner/edges (i forgot which one they said on the viseo) is a 9.5 (aka gem mint)

that equals a gem mint 9.5

something smells at beckett

I'd like to thank all the idiots at Beckett for ONCE AGAIN proving me right in bashing them for all the shady, deceptive, unethical crap they've done over the past decade. Hopefully this is the eye opener for those who continuously waste their money on their monthly fiction rags and their obviously flawed, questionable and inept grading service. Whoever the genius was at Beckett that thought this was a good idea for business is obviously about as sharp as a bowling ball. They grade a flawed card an undeserving 9.5 and quickly release a video to explain how they came to that grade thinking they'd take advantage of all the free publicity from the Strasburg hype. Obviously they know they just pulled some shady crap while trying to get attention from the masses who don't know any better AND save face with the people in the hobby who do.

Man that video is cringe material at best. I always used to shake my head at some of the things I sent in that did not come back a 9.5 for things that made no sense to me,now make a lotta sense

Wow. Beckett's arrogance is unbelievable. Hopefully there's some sort of backlash from this.

Just got around to watching the video, wonder why they had to make a video to defend this card's particular grade. If this were any other card, it would've gotten an 8.5 at best, they should be ashamed!!

Bam, couldn't of said it better myself, they truly are idiots at Beckett!

When you actually think about it the fact that they tried to convince you on video that it was a 9.5 makes it even worse. If the grade was earned there would be no need for the video. (BTW isn't the guy on the right a little young to be a "Senior" grader?)

David, the guy on the left, has been there longer than any of the graders. I think he has been there since 99. I would guess he is around my age, 30 or so. I only know this because I was there on Saturday for a question and answer deal with all of the graders.

I just looked at the strasburg I had graded this weekend. I don't ever look at the centering on the back of cards when I get them graded. I obviously should. This is coming from a guy that has had 12 cards graded in all. I just looked at the back of my blue refractor stras that I had graded this weekend and is has very similar centering to the super. I guess they are consistent on that. My surface killed me with an 8.5, edges a 10, and corners a 9. A guy at the lcs told me he didn't understand why the surface only graded an 8.5. He didn't see any imperfections that warranted that low of a grade, and he gets a lot of cards graded. I will say I don't think that card should have been given the grade it was if it had all the issues they said it did. That is just me though.

Did Olds write a script for this before filming ? I haven't seen worse acting since Hackler tried to act surprised with the AP in Exquisite. Friggin clowns, they should be embarrassed.
