Default Terrible Cuts

Some cuts annoy me already because they destroy cool stuff that I would rather have to make a crappy fake but this one is ridiculous to me. I mean, they take something that I think would be cool to have (a Ted Williams check) and chop nearly the whole first name off just to stick it in a cut card. I am sure there are tons of other cuts out there so why would Topps even buy one that wasn't going to fit on the card?

Imo this is what redemptions should be for. Put a redemption in, have it slabbed by PSA and send it out the day you redeem it. I mean the whole check not the card.

Or have it as a booklet card or something.

Look at the Sig. The last letter of the first name is not a D. Also Teddy ball game always connected the d to the w with a space between the w and the I. It was either a full name Sig which they just destroyed or it is the Ted Williams that mowed lawns, not the one that played baseball.

That is the WORST looking Ted Williams card I've ever seen in my life!!!! No one who collects Teddy Ballgame would ever touch that with a ten foot pole. I feel bad for that poor seller, he's stuck with that p.o.s. Shame on you Topps!!

I would almost nearly always rather have the whole slabbed check.

I just can't believe they did this.

Why the hell can't they make a booklet and have Theodore on one side and Williams on the other? That might actually be cool

God, Topps is worthless

This, as always, is the takeaway.

I love the idea of a redemption for the entire framed check though. If Topps didn't suck they could have made it so nice - maybe make a custom 8x10 Williams card and mount the check inside it the way they'd do with a jersey patch.

I agree. That could have been a beautiful rare full name Sig. Instead it is a chopped up piece of crap. The seller should send it to topps and claim it as a damaged card and request a new one lol. They would probably send him an ike Davis and duke insider dual check with sticker autos. Wonder who that Vince guy on that check is. 25 large to a bookie?

I'd really like to know what the production process for cut cards is like. If someone just goes out and gets the auto with no parameters in mind and someone in another department just loads whatever premade template they feel like reusing for card design.

I imagine very poor communication and people not giving a crap about the final product as long as they get paid is the answer.

Man a bank wouldn't touch that check with a ten foot pole nowadays. Not sure why he didn't write thousand after twenty five? Think this Vince guy added a few zeros??

Doesnt really surprise me though. After they put out a 1/1 with BOTH the Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig sigs in it forgeries, I figure Topps will do about anything.

Does anyone remember when Topps did the same thing in 2013 Museum Collection?!

Who is 'Heodore William' anyways?

It will be interesting to see if it sells and what for.

Not to dig something up or hijack a thread but how do you know? Is there more info out there on this card?

Yes there is. Psa originally authenticated Both signatures. The card was released. It was put up to auction by beckett consignments. People that actually know what a Ruth and Gherig signature look like saw it and called BS. (they are not even good fakes) Beckett pulled the card the same day from the auction. The card was then sent to JSA to be re authenticated and it was never heard about since. There is alot about it here...http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/b...ruth-auto.html

and on net54

Oh and it isnt that uncommon. Upper Deck has used multiple forgeries in their cut cards. Also the 2009 triple threads Ruth cut was deemed fake as well. So yeah, that was two fake Ruth sigs that Topps passed into the Hobby in two years. The Ruth on that last Topps card was so bad the Ebay even pulled the auction.
