Even the trump balls aren't a reliable option I have been told. ROMLB or bust!

Not gonna find anything reliable if its not an OMLB. Not worth your time nor effort for them to fade within months.

-Depending on the player, a ball that is/was used while that person played (i think) would be best. This assumes ballplayer or manager/staff of a team, so an official Texas League Ball for someone like Ben Paulsen (yeah tulsa!) whose biggest success was in minors, or an OMLB for someone that made it to the big time.

If you can't get an exact fit, if for PC who gives a crap, have them give you a rock star auto and take a pic of yer chest for posterity.

Enjoy.

Ill admit, I've had pretty good luck with the minor league baseballs, only when I get them signed in sharpie. Otherwise they'd bleed

I now only go with the black ROMLB signed with gold paint pen, since all types of baseballs signed in pen fade eventually...

rawlings | BaseballExpress.com

I have used balls from this website, pick any of them that say "full-grain leather" in the description. $30 - $50 a dozen. I have used the Ripken League balls myself.
Before you get them autographed, take a white pencil eraser, and/or, Ultra fine sandpaper and the word "China" can be removed easily. Then I sand and erase the sweet spot until the shiny coating is gone. Once you get the autograph, put them immediately that day into a UV protected Ultra Pro Ball cube. I have balls like this that still look nice 5 years later, with very little fading or bleeding. I only use these for players that I want a autograph baseball of, but have no intention of ever selling.

I always find it amazing that ROMLB balls are the only baseballs that don't fade or bleed blue pen. What a nice monopoly to have. I'm shocked more companies have not tried like the Trump baseballs to come up with something. And does anyone really know the true reason? All I've heard is some kind of chemical in the leather balls manufactured in China that makes them bleed and fade. I think Rawlings puts the chemical in there on purpose to sell more $15 dollar balls.

Really any leather ball will do. I have seen some on official high school balls and they haven't faded yet. One was even done with a red sharpie.

I've played around with a few different baseballs and ROMLBs are the only ones I've found not to consistently bleed. The Ripken League balls I tried? Signatures were about gone in a few months. Even ROMLBs will bleed/fade on occasion, but they're the only truly reliable option.

I honestly believe sanding the sweet spot with UltraFine sandpaper helps. Getting that shiny chemical glaze off the ball that probably contributes.
Air, light, and moisture are the biggest enemies of the signature, plus whatever chemical is in the cheap balls. I was out of cubes one time, and got a Ripken ball signed (Matt Guerrier, not that it matters) and that ball sat on the shelf with no protection and within a few weeks it was badly faded and bled. There are Twins guys that I want autographed balls for display, but in no way can justify $12 - $15 for a ball. I have many from 4 - 5 years ago that I followed all my steps, and still look very nice on display. In 20 or 30 years will they look nice? Probably not, but I don't think I will much care about Nick Punto, Scott Baker, Alexi Casilla, or Jason Kubel in 20 years. But I have enjoyed collecting them while they were Twins.
Of course all my Mauer, Morneau, Killebrew, and Carew autos are on OMLB's, even top prospects like Miguel Sano, I got on a OMLB this year.

And, if you want an alternative to expensive baseballs, I get a lot of 8x10s signed. Cost is about $1.50 a piece, less chance of fading, and they display a lot easier. My personal item of choice.
