The best surprise player this season is not so "tricky" because it goes without saying that player is R.A. Dickey.

On the opposite side I'd give it to the entire Boston Red Sox & team and (for me personally) Eric Hosmer. At least Hosmer has started to swing the lumber of late. BTW ... I'm still buying him up!!!!

Edwin Encarnacion had a pretty surprising year. Really turned around his career this year with the Jays.

It really does seem like he is using PEDs.

If you told me in half a season Chapman would be leading the NL in saves I would say you were nuts.

I think the BIGGEST surprise is a 36 year old who was hitting almost .320 and on pace for 50 HRS.

David Ortiz.

The only way David Ortiz would surprise me is if he was on pace for 50 stolen bases LOL

No one has mentioned Ryan Ludwig. Good chance he is going to be comeback player of the year.

I'm going to have to go with Wade Miley. 14-9 with a 2.90 ERA. Should be the NL rookie of the year, but we all know that'll go to Harper.

Mike Trout just because everyone expected him to have more struggles ala Harper this year and not to be one of the top 5 players in the AL. In terms of WAR he is at 9.5..#2? Robinson Cano at...............6.2!

Dickey has to be it for pitchers. Medlen you could say but he was good before his injury. He definitely is on a hot streak.

Team? Baltimore Orioles definitely.

Wade Miley, 15-9, 3.07 ERA, wasn't even supposed to make the starting rotation going into spring training.

In a normal year he'd be contending for ROY. Other than Trout, who else would be in the race? Darvish and Cespedes? Are they really rookies?

Trout isn't even really a rookie, MLB allowed him to have this season be considered his Rookie Year. What made him not qualify as a rookie this year the MLB thought it was a stupid rule so they changed it for him.
