Default How does anybody afford this?

Hey guys,

I have been collecting for a while but just got into hobby boxes. I love seeing the case breaks of stuff but it is just so much to buy them. Do you guys treat it more as an investment and try to flip them or are people actually keeping these cards?

Lot of people will bust cases and keep a few things and flip the rest. It's a lot of work though with the lower stuff I've found.

There are also people on here who host group breaks which is anyone who is interested pays for a team/whatever for a certain price and recieves cards related to their choice. This allows people to continue to buy multiple cases

I bet some of them max out their credit cards lol. I remember there was a guy who pretty much went all in on Razors 2008 Oval Office and nearly lost his home and family. Breaking wax can be addicting, just like gambling.

If you don't have a ton of money, just stick to buying singles and the cards you want here in the B/S/T forum or on eBay. Plus with eBay bucks you get cash back (to spend on more cards obviously).

It really depends on the person, you gotta realize there are so many different kinds of collectors with different financial situations..some may just buy cases open them for the fun of it an keep all the cards b/c the can afford to do so, but realistically on most products if you buy a case at a cheap pre-sale price and sell off everything the day of release you really arent gambling too much as you should be able to recoup alot of your money

It's because they have money to spend and choose to do this instead of buying a bigger house, a faster car, or a better looking partner.

We each have our own hobbies in life. My father in law spends more on fishing than I do on cards. As your life changes and your financial situation changes (hopefully for the better) you'll adjust how often and how much you spend on cards. If you're 18-25 don't expect to break a case of each new release.

I used to buy less than 6 hobby boxes a year and maybe a dozen blasters. As I've found better deals on hobby boxes (Blowout) and ways to move extra cards (B/S/T and COMC.com) I've been able buy more boxes and even a case or two but I do it wisely. I move what I don't want in order to get more of what I do want.

Personally, I don't think this hobby would be fun if I had unlimited funds. Having to be strategic and budget is part of the addiction.
