Like I said, I hate watching these games with the Orioles announcers. With that being said, it was really funny last night to start the game how they were condescending talking about the Yankees only scored 8 runs in the last 4 games and then Goldy leads the game off with a homerun just as he finishes saying it.

Warren and Weathers continue to make a hard decision for the Yankees when Cole is ready to return.

The numbers for Jazz are worse than what we see with our eyes.

The Yankees are watching Jazz Chisholm implode in a defining season

He won't be missed. Maybe the Yankees will trade him this year.

As the self-appointed Jazz defender in this forum, I must point out that there are some things in that article that don't tell the full story. The author should try and scroll down once in a while on Baseball Savant and not just look at the Red/Blue colors.

Firstly, his Whiff% and K% are at about where they were last year and his bat speed is only (on average) 0.9 mph slower than last year. So those aren't really the concerns right now for him.

Second, using just metrics to grade defense is inherently flawed. There are too many factors to consider that are solely out of the players' control. DRS and OAA are good starting points, but the eye test is honestly worth more than any of these saber-mathematicians can come up with.

What I am concerned about is the Fast Swing Rate %, Barrel %, Launch Angle, and Under %. All of those are considerably worse in their own way to that of last year. I'm pretty confident in saying that the problem is something mechanical in Jazz's swing. Whatever it is, it's causing him to miss the barrel and get under the ball more often than he's ever had in his career. It would also explain why he's not swinging the bat as hard as often.

Also, bringing up Gleyber just tells me he didn't watch Yankee games in 2023 or 2024.

Saw all of that but I think there’s something else going on with him.

I could see defending that it’s only 43 games into the season but he had one little spurt where it looked like he was getting back to a decent player. After that he reverted back to being bad. Without hitting it affects everything he can’t steal bases when he’s not on base and as far as setting lofty goals. Write your numbers you would like to have on a piece of paper put it in your locker and bring it out at the end of the season. No sense in putting extra pressure on yourself by anointing yourself as the next 50-50 player and knowing as you continue to struggle it will keep being brought up.

Gleyber was/is a league-average hitter, a below average defender, and a bad baserunner. Not sure why people are still stuck on him.

Probably but considering they stay healthy somebody will be traded to solve other problems.

He's always done that though. Maybe that's his way of holding himself accountable. I remember when he said he was going to win the GG in CF with the Marlins but then he got hurt.

The silver lining here is that it's most likely mechanical and that means it can be FIXED. Weather or not he fixes it, though, is up to him.

Because with the way Jazz is playing a lower bar is being set.

Just proves how bad Jazz is if we are longing for the glory days of Gleyber. The problem with Jazz, and for the most part most modern day players, is they never make any adjustments to their game. They just repeat the same failing approach game after game.

It’s funny but players are never as good as they appear during a hot stretch but also never as bad during a cold stretch. Somewhere along the line during this season he will figure it out, l just think with the way management loves Volpe he better start doing good because once Caballero comes back I could see them moving Volpe to second and trading Jazz for bullpen needs.

Gleyber never set lofty goals and they both are not great defenders lately Jazz just looks so lackadaisical out there. They are also two different types of players. Gleyber was never a power hitter or base stealer and the teams were different. I will take the results at the end of the season of the 2024 Yankees team though as they did make it to the World Series.

Ok, man you hate Jazz we get it.

If you want to hyper-focus on some random thing he said after he was ASKED about it, then that's on you. I guarantee you he's not thinking about it when he's at the plate. If you were ever an athlete, you would know that a ton of them do that throughout sports. Hell, I did that in college. Did I end up hitting .400 with 10 bombs? Nope. But it was something to strive for, to keep you going.

Not a Jazz hater I don’t hate anybody just the way certain players play. You calling yourself the self Anointed Jazz defender tells me you will see everything he does or says through rose colored glasses. When a person calls you a hater when having a rational discussion it says a lot about them.
Also question when you set your goals did you announce it to your whole team and everyone else or keep it to yourself.

Rose colored glasses??? I have done nothing but provide rational reasoning on why Jazz is a better contributor than most people give him credit for for over a year. I provide insightful statistics (with explanations), meaningful comparisons, and sometimes simple logic in hopes to change the way people view him just because he doesn't look or carry himself like a cookie-cutter, deadball era, jabroni.

You have not given any rational retort to any of the info I provided. You just don't like the way he looks standing in the field or in the box and that, in fact, is a hater. If you're not a hater then please provide *rational* reasons as to why Jazz was NOT a Top 5 2B in MLB last year, why the Yanks should get rid of him, and who the Yanks could realistically replace him with this year that would be a net positive for the team.

I told it to people that asked. The fact that you even asked that question means you missed the point and are mentally stuck on viewing Jazz a certain way.

Rational reasons sometimes don’t come from burying your head in a stat book., watching him constantly fail to do the little things is what bothers me. Man on 3rd one out would it kill him to just try and make contact instead of swinging for the fences, and don’t forget when he admitted he didn’t know the rules on a play that could’ve saved the game. There are more instances just by watching and what of his start this year says he is a main contributor to this team. I have cut him slack in the past but he has never looked this bad in any previous stretch. You say you bring receipts but you’re trying to make a failure of a season so far into something it isn’t. And yes he is a top 5 second baseman but that says more about the position than anything he has done on the field this season. I am not expecting Rod Carew, Joe Morgan or even Willie Randolph just some consistency would be nice. Who do you consider the top 5 second baseman in the whole league right now as there really aren’t that many that stand out to me. I will do my research and check the stats of the 30 starting second baseman as of today but I suppose you have already done that and haven’t posted about it because it doesn’t meet your narrative of defending Jazz. Maybe he has an undisclosed injury like Volpe.

When he is going good he can be fun to watch, sadly we haven’t seen that Jazz yet this year.
