LeBron James.

His flops are Oscar worthy.

Val Kilmer in Tombstone - the fact that he wasn't nominated for best supporting actor is one of the biggest Oscar snubs of all time.

My favorites are the ones born in the early 60s and before including:

Jack Nicholson
Robert Redford
Gene Hackman
Clint Eastwood
Robert De Niro
Gary Oldman
Samuel Jackson
Gary Busey
Louise gossett jr
Denzel Washington
Nick Nolte
Russell Crowe
Bruce Willis
Tom Berenger

Gen X has a few actors that I like but we are a major drop off compared to the previous gens and it gets worse each gen thereafter. The Gen that grew up with video games, internet, smart phones, kardashians and social media are the worst actors and I’m not going to pretend that I find them interesting or worth watching. The next generation of actors that grows up with AI will be even worse.

he was in some great films and is a great actor

doesn't quite make my pantheon
maybe not enough subversive or varied roles- not sure

Im more likely to include someone like Mat Dillon on my list- Outsiders-Drugstore Cowboy-Crash-Something about Mary.
Weird, I know.

Great screen presence. Can’t say that about these modern actors. They put me to sleep.

No love for Tom Hanks or Robert Duvall? anyway it was hard decision between Tom Cruise and DiCaprio. I voted DiCaprio.

Not the best actor per say but Jim Carrey brought me joy like no other, and is probably my favorite actor for that.

Cillian Murphy.

Not sure what position he plays though.

Tom Hanks is up there for me.

This seems shortsighted. There are so many great performers from these generations. Turning a blind eye to what's coming might prevent you from finding a new favorite. Same with music, once somebody starts saying, 'OH THERE'S ON GOOD MUSIC ANYMORE, IRON MAIDEN WAS THE LAST GREAT BAND!' I avoid talking about music with them. I love Maiden, but you know what I mean.

I'm naval gazing. I guess my point is that sometimes people are far too quick to stop exploring art.

Harrison Ford's performance in the Temple of Doom is highly highly underrated imo.

The film-story isn't the best or most popular. But Ford's dynamic role of serious, funny, superhero, introvert, heel-turn, dialogue with the kid, cavern chase before dwarves, animals, love banter, etc. is one of the greatest performances I've seen.

Well there’s something to it Will. Most of the guys I mentioned didn’t grow up with video games, cell phones and all the additional distractions/brain rot that subsequent generations of actors did. They were more likely to be well read and and all the free time in the world to be creative and consider the philosophical workings of human emotion and motivation, desires and psychology. Listen to interviews of actors of the past and this bears it out. Then listen to the younger actors today. It’s night and day.

Then you have cell phones. Kids talking in person (when they’re not formulating in person experiences by being on the internet) often times don’t have the full attention of the people around them, or they don’t gesture because they’re looking at their phones. If you watch older movies, you’ll see more nuance in physical acting and gestures and the way people interact. Now it’s more cookie cutter acting. Physical acting has taken a huge hit and the physical part of acting is about 85% of being a good actor. HUGE.

Having Gen X and millennial writers putting together the scripts doesn’t help the actors either. Gen Z and alpha will be even worse.

I would probably argue Keanu. Between Bill and Ted, Speed, Matrix and John Wick he has capture my mentality at each of these times of life.

Harrison hurt himself by extending those two beloved, by Gen X, characters into the horrible recent films.
