Default Cris Carter Rookie Cards, Year ???

I was looking up Cris Carter rookie cards and the only ones available are a 1989 "rookie" cards when his rookie season was in 1987. Did they not make any real rookie cards of him?

Yes, no cards in '87/'88. Very common back then. Montana was a rookie in '79, his rookie card came in '81.

Football sets were always pretty small. Many players who don't make much of an impact or are not star players on defense/oline never got cards. Also, 1989 was the first year that draft picks received cards the same year they were drafted.

Philosophically, I always call a players' FIRST card their Rookie Card, even if it doesn't come their rookie year.
