Default Seems like Top Shot was served Class Action

Just got an email, I have an account but never invested in any Top Shot Video….

NOTICE OF PROPOSED CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT
Fan v. NBA Properties, Inc., Case No. 3:23-cv-05069-SI
(United States District Court for the Northern District of California)

Our Records Indicate You Have An NBA Top Shot Account and May Be Entitled to a Payment from a Class Action Settlement.

A court authorized this notice. You are not being sued. This is not a solicitation from a lawyer.

This notice is to inform you that a proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit claiming that Defendants, NBA Properties, Inc. and Dapper Labs, Inc., disclosed their subscribers’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) to Meta via the Meta Tracking Pixel on the nbatopshot.com website without proper consent, in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act (the “VPPA”) and California law. Defendants deny that they violated any law but have agreed to the settlement to avoid the uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case.

Am I a Class Member? Our records indicate you may be a Class Member. Class Members are all persons in the United States who, from June 15, 2020, to and through January 30, 2025, had an active Facebook account and an NBA Top Shot account.

What Can I Get? If approved by the Court, Defendants will establish a Settlement Fund of
$7,050,000.00 to pay all valid claims submitted by the Settlement Class, together with notice and administration expenses, attorneys’ fees and costs, and an incentive award. If you are entitled to relief, you may submit a claim to receive a pro rata share of the Settlement Fund, estimated at
$36-$122 per class member. The settlement also requires Defendants to suspend operation of the Meta Tracking Pixel on the NBA Top Shot website unless and until the VPPA is amended, repealed, or otherwise invalidated—or unless Defendants are otherwise in compliance with that law.

$36-122 per person!

That's enough to buy a Zion S1 Block moment!

TopShot is back!

Depends on how you define scam but this class action is about selling PII without consent

I always felt that way and then a $3200 check showed up last year from a class action and I couldn't even remember how I was tied to the company they went after lol. Deposited the check, no issues. 15 months later I'd say I'm in the clear.

So, did the people who spend thousands and thousands on these stupid things only end up with $83?

Looking at the Reddit, yes, seems like everyone got the same payout. I only spent $25 out of pocket on this whole thing to buy a Cool Cats pack way back in the day. the few thousand I made was nice and this $83 is just the cherry on top. I love looking back at that thread every so often and see how many people were hanging on until the end, unable to admit that maybe NFTs weren't the next big thing.

You missed out on a lot of money the last year on Panini NFTs then. There was no bigger guarantees on so many products over such a long stretch and easy to buy for the most part in that time period. It's over now because they lost NBA and NFL. But you could have easily made 6 figures in that timeframe putting in a fraction of that.

I made a few hundred with the existing NFTs I had, which is more than enough for me.
