Default What’s Wrong with Shane Wright?

Watching Juraj Slafkofski score his 25th goal of the season made me wonder what happened and/or went wrong with Shane Wright?

He’s floundering with 11 goals on the season, a year following his un-inspiring 19 goal season.

One thought that came to mind is that it’s definitely a lot easier scoring goals when your linemates are Goal Caufield and Assist Suzuki.

It made me wonder how good Shane Wright could have been had he gotten picked, the confidence he would have had going in to his NHL career, the superior teammates, etc etc….

The Kraken stymied the development of Matty Beniers, and now Shane Wright.

Slafkovsky looked great at the Olympic Games. Yes, he had a slow start ans he have great linemates, but he have a good attitude, loves to play hockey and is developing well. He is not perfect but he got a huge body and he is learning to use it.

Shane Wright have an attitude problem, Habs’ GM spotted it before the draft.

I mean to play Devils Advocate Lafrenière got all the things in your second last paragraph and still didn’t/isn’t lighting the world on fire. Honestly that whole situation just made me a lot less trusting of expert and mock “drafts” unless the kids a clear thing like Bedard. They’ve been wrong about draft order and just overall ability quite often

He has 0 potential to be a star on the Kraken. He's never on the 1st line, the guy he had his success with on his line last year Bjorkstrand was traded long ago, he was on a line with Kakko and Schwartz and Kakko broke his hand/Schwartz is always in and out with injuries. Thus leaving Wright with either a revolving door of randoms or with unexperienced rookies like Nyman or Catton who both haven't done anything this year. Lets be serious though..the Kraken as a whole would have no player on the roster that would make the 1st line on 95% of the teams in the NHL.

This is pretty spot on. Given the ice times and surrounding talent, Seattle players are going to almost assuredly produce worse than they would pretty much anywhere else....well, except maybe Philly. This isn't to say Wright will right his ship; however, he's only played 164 NHL games, and often it takes players quite a bit more than that to connect the dots.

as someone that followed Wright a bit through his last couple years in Minor Hockey (his U16 AAA team was maybe the best of all time here in Ontario) where he played as an underager and got exceptional status, it's really odd to see how much he has tailed off.

Perhaps the COVID year hurt his development a bit (but he did follow up an outstanding rookie season with a 95 point season)

Skating isnt elite and that might be the difference in the end tbh
