Default 1984 STAR Jordan

Is it surprising to anyone else how much growth this card has seen? It’s exploded in popularity since around 2022

What validated it is PSA grading the 101. Investors/collectors were scared to fully embrace the 101 until they could count on PSA to authenticate/grade Jordans only rookie. Alot of hard feelings on here about it because they have become priced out when just 3/4 years ago they could have purchased one now that ship has sailed.

It was a true licensed product correct? Just not a true “pack pulled”.

Sold in team set form only with limited distribution. Designated as an XRC and rightfully so, by the hobby based on those two factors. Cool card to have if you're a more advanced MJ collector. But the iconic rookie card as history states is still the 1986 Fleer #57, no matter how many of these threads are made.

No reason to not have a thread to talk about the 84 star. Both can be sought after Jordan rookies and line it or not the STAR is selling for high amounts

Michael Jordan wasn't in the 1984 Star set. He was still in college. The card you posted is from the 1985 Star set. Look in the upper right hand corner. It says Star '85.

The scan in the op is so not a 9.5 centering top and bottom lol

The Star 101 is a mega card about time it has popped. The other two MJ cards in the set (Olympic and Bulls jersey) are the logical plan B if you can't afford the big one. They're all going up!

Not his rookie man no matter how many times you say it MJ has one rookie the 101. I sure hope you don't tell people you have a Jordan rookie!

You're trying to change history dude. Get over yourself. 40 years of the hobby that has accepted the 1986 Fleer set as rookie cards. The 101 is an extended rookie card(XRC). The 57 is THE ICONIC rookie card(RC). Keep pumping and attempting to tear down statues.

.where did you hear 3k?.......post the source id love to read it.....the little things about Star interest me.

Most of the problems center around the 83/84 reg set the celtics, bucks, sixers, lakers, mavs team bags all have known problems with cutting....the mavs bag is est only 500 team bags were released.there were a few bags printed over the 5k....83 all star was 15k last i heard...the 84 bird 10k.....

One of the more impressive Etsy inspired broder creations in bkb history, for sure.

The diamond cut, bulimic red borders.

His Baldness twerking up against what appears to be Mike Dunleavy's great grandfather whilst number 44 looks on in utter disgust.

Wilford Brimley's first and only RC cameo appearance front row.

The ingredients are all there.

Somethin' like a cross between Teddy Aguhob and Kaboom Mystery Packs. I got that Givenchy denim flow.

The hobby evolves and new light is brought to the forefront! It's ok man your 3rd year Jordan is still a cool mass produced card! Everyone has one! Maybe you can step up one day and afford the 101 but there are not alot to go around especially in high grade good luck!

Seen several "interviews" with Steve i cant remember him saying the 101 bag was 3k print run......so ill ask again post up the link/source so i can see it...to me that would be huge news for the Star collecting guys.not saying your wrong just never heard of the 3k number before for the 101 bag....everything Ive ever seen or heard was the 4-5k range....the bag did have short cut problems but some or all? were still released as the "short" 101's are well known.

Dudes trying to pump his card to make himself feel somehow superior. Problem is, he’s coming off like an a-hole about it and hurting his cause way more than he is helping it.

If you believe that then you have to believe the 5x7 court kings card is his true RC......it was released before the 101 bag.I bought all this stuff when it first came out in Woonsocket, Rhode Island where Don Gilbert (the east master dealer) had his shop...i remember this as it was the first Star product he got in....first was the yellow series 1 bag the next week the purple series 2 bag. he would save me 2 of every bag as they came in.if i couldn't make it he would send them down with Pat Lepore who owned a shop closer to my home.

Years later 2015?we met up at a card show at the VFW in Vero beach FL where i was living in Vero he was living in Melborne we had a great 2 hour conversation about Star Co from the 83 all star set (Thomas's RC btw is in that set) all the way up to the 90/91 Lmited lic sets.i say all that to say i do have a good working knowledge of the Star time frame and facts......there's so much bad info out there.

I’m fully expecting dude to show up in the Jordan autograph thread to scold us all for talking about those cards instead of the Star 101. Lmao

No, 1985 Star. None of the cards were released in 1984. Just like it is 1986 Fleer not 1986-87 Fleer. All those cards were released in 1986.
